Case 60XT Skid Steer Troubleshooting

The Case 60XT skid steer loader driveline system components: a 239 cu.in (3.9L) Case 4-390 4-cycle 4-cylinder direct injection diesel engine with a rated power of 75 hp (55.9 kW) and hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated capacity of 21 gal/min (79.4 l/min). The system relief pressure is 3000 psi (207 bar). The Case 60XT is equipped with a radial-lift boom, 100HS continuous roller chains, and 12x16.5 or 33-15.5x16.5 tires. The skid steer loader has a boom lifting force of 4430 lbs (2015 kg) and bucket breakout force of 5055 lbs (2295 kg). The rated operating capacity is 1800 lbs (817 kg), and tipping load is 3600 lbs (1635 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts up hard or won't start

Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Fuel filter element is dirty - Install new filter element.
Damaged or dirty injection nozzles - Test injection nozzles and change if necessary.
Water or dirt in fuel system - Drain, flush, and service the system.
Valve clearance is out of adjustment - Correct valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Repair or install new pump.

Diesel starts and stops

Air cleaner is dirty - Clean or change.
Dirty fuel filter - Clean or replace the filter.
Problems with fuel injection pump tightness - Inspect fuel injection pump for leaks.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump failure - Rebuild or change fuel pump.

Engine stalls during operation

Engine is not warmed up to required temperature - Normalize the engine temperature.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Change the filter element.
Air trapped in fuel system - Bleed air.
Defective or clogged injection nozzle - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Set up as recommended.

Engine stalls at low idle speed

Incorrectly adjusted low idle speed - Test and adjust.
Fuel injection pump is damaged - Change or repair the pump.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Test and replace fuel injectors if necessary.
Valve clearance is out of adjustment - Check and adjust.

Engine power loss

Air filter is dirty - Clean or change.
Fuel injection nozzles fault - Install a new kit of correctly balanced nozzles.

Engine overheating

Oil pressure too low

Low crankcase oil level - Add oil as required.
Oil filter element is dirty - Clean or change engine oil filter.
Oil grade or viscosity is incorrect - Fill up with the proper oil viscosity.
Crankshaft bearing has excessive oil clearance - Bearings need to be reinstalled.
Oil pump is worn or damaged - Repair or replace.

Engine knocking or noise

Lack of engine oil - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Engine is not warmed up to required temperature - Warm up to required temperature.
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust the pump as required.
Incorrectly set low idle speed - Adjustment required.

Lack of power

Clogged hydraulic oil filter - Check, clean, or replace as required.

Drive system keeps overheating

Low hydraulic fluid level - Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary.

Hydraulic motor or drive pump is defective - Change or repair faulty component.

Hydraulic pump makes excessive noise

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery does not charge

Electrical cable connections are loose or corroded - Tighten or clean electrical wiring connections.
Battery terminal connectors are defective - Terminal connectors should be replaced.
Defective battery - Battery change required.
Belt is loose or defective - Adjust belt tension or change the belt.

Starter turns slowly

Low battery output voltage - Battery is drained, recharge it.
Battery will not hold charge - Service charging system or replace battery.
Terminals are faulty or battery cables are disconnected - Check cables and clean or change terminals.

Starter does not work

Battery is low or faulty - Recharge or replace battery.
Disconnected or improperly connected wiring harness - Inspect battery wiring harness and connect as required.
Battery capacity is low - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Starter motor is damaged - Repair or change starter.
