Case 95XT Skid Steer Troubleshooting

The Case 95XT skid steer loader is powered by 239 cu.in (3.9L) 4T-390 4-cycle 4-cylinder direct injection turbocharged diesel engine with a rated power of 85 hp (63.4 kW) at 2500 rpm. The Case 95XT is equipped with a two-speed hydrostatic transmission, axial piston drive pumps, vertical-lift boom, and 12x16.5 standard tires. The open center hydraulic system has a pump with fluid flow rate of 22.8 gpm (86.3 lpm). The hydraulic pressure is 3000 psi (207 bar). The skid steer loader has a rated operating capacity of 3150 lbs (1430 kg) and tipping load of 6300 lbs (2860 kg). The lift height is 125.5 inches (3190 mm) to hinge pin, and dump height is 95 inches (2410 mm).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts up hard or doesn't start

Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Fuel filter element clogging - Service or replace the filter.
Fuel injection nozzles are damaged - Install a new kit of correctly balanced nozzles.
Water in the fuel system - Change fuel and repair fuel system.
Incorrect valve clearance - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Replace or repair injection pump.

Diesel starts but immediately shuts off

Air filter is plugged - Clean or change filter.
Fuel filter element is dirty - Install new filter element.
Problems with fuel injection pump tightness - Inspect fuel injection pump for leaks.
Clogged or defective injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Damaged fuel injection pump - Repair or install new pump.

Engine stops unexpectedly during operation

Coolant temperature is low - Warm up to required temperature.
Fuel filter element is dirty - Change the filter element.
Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Clogged injection nozzle - Service or change injection nozzles.
Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.

Engine stalling at idle

Too low idle RPM - Adjustment required.
Fuel injection pump failure - Rebuild or install a new injection pump.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Test and replace fuel injectors if necessary.
Valve clearance is out of adjustment - Correct valve clearance needs to be set.

Diesel engine is losing power

Air filter is clogged - Replace or clean air filter element.

Fuel injection pressure is wrong - Adjust to proper pressure.
Incorrect valve clearance - Adjust valve clearance according to specifications.

Drive system doesn't function in one direction or either direction

Insufficient hydraulic fluid - Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary.
Damaged drive chain - Inspect drive chain and replace faulty parts.
Input drive shaft is defective - Rebuild or change.
Defective relief valve - Change or repair defective relief valve.
Hydraulic filter or suction line is plugged - Check, clean, or change if necessary.
Hand or foot controls failure - Repair or change.
Drive motor or pump is worn - Inspect and change as required.

Power is too low

Plugged hydraulic oil filter - Replace hydraulic filter.
Relief valve is defective or opened - Replace or close relief valve.
Faulty or damaged transmission components - Inspect and change defective parts.
Worn input drive shaft - Replace or service the drive shaft.
Hydraulic system is leaking air - Bleed air from system.

Overheated drive system

Hydraulic fluid level low - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.

Hydraulic system has overheating

Hydraulic pump makes excessive noise

Battery is not charging

Belt is defective or loose - Belt needs to be adjusted or changed.

Starter turning slow

Low battery capacity - Battery is drained, recharge it.

Faulty battery terminals or disconnected cables - Connect cables properly or replace terminals.

Starter will not work

Battery is low or faulty - Need to charge or replace the battery.
