Case TR270 Track Loader Troubleshooting

The Case TR270 compact track loader driveline system components: a 207 cu.in (3.4L) FPT F5H FL463 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine with a rated power of 74 hp (55 kW) and hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated flow of 24.2 gpm (91.5 lpm). The system pressure is 3050 psi (210 bar). The Case TR270 is equipped with a planetary gearbox with 2-speed motor, 12.6" (320 mm) rubber tracks with steel inserts, and radial-lift loader boom. The loader has a boom lift force of 6260 lbs (2845 kg) and bucket breakout force of 7270 lbs (3305 kg). The rated operating capacity is 1890 lbs (860 kg), and tipping load is 5400 lbs (2450 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts up hard or will not start

Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Clogged fuel filter - Clean the filter element.
Damaged or dirty injection nozzles - Service or change injection nozzles.
Dirt or water in fuel system - Drain water or flush dirt from the system.
Incorrect valve clearance - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump is not working correctly - Replace or rebuild injection pump.

Engine starts but stalls immediately

Plugged air filter - Clean or change filter.
Fuel filter plugged - Install new filter element.
Fuel injection pump has loose connections - Tighten the connections.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Damaged fuel injection pump - Replacement or repair required.

Engine stalls during operation

Engine not warmed up - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.
Fuel filter plugging - Clean or replace the filter.
There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Dirty or damaged injection nozzles - Check injection nozzles and replace if required.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Set the fuel pump timing correctly.

Engine stops while idle

Incorrectly set low idle speed - Correct the settings.
Fuel injection pump is broken - Rebuild or replace pump.
Fuel injector fault - Clean or replace fuel injectors.
Improper valve clearance - Adjust to proper valve clearance.

Engine loses power

Plugged air filter - Replace or clean air filter element.
Fuel injection nozzles are damaged - Check and replace nozzles if required.

Valve out of adjustment - Adjustment procedure required.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Adjust the low idle speed.

Engine overheated

Insufficient oil pressure

Not enough oil in the engine - Fill up the engine oil.
Oil filter is dirty - Service or change engine oil filter element.
Oil grade or viscosity is wrong - Fill up with the proper oil viscosity.
Crankshaft bearing has excessive oil clearance - Bearing needs to be changed.
Oil pump failure - Repair or replace.

Abnormal engine knocking or noise

Engine oil level is insufficient - Check and refill engine oil.
Low coolant temperature - Warm up the engine.
Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted - Adjust according to specifications.
Improperly adjusted low idle speed - Need to adjust idle speed.

Suction line or hydraulic filter is plugged - Check, clean, or replace if required.
Foot or hand controls are defective - Change or repair.
Drive motor or pump is defective - Check and repair if required.

Machine does not move straight or moves jerky

Damaged or jammed track mechanism - Repair or remove jamming.
Tracks are sagging or worn - Repair tracks or correct track sag with tension.
Track frame is blocked with debris, dirt, or foreign objects - Remove foreign objects or debris and clean undercarriage track frame.

Power is too low

Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Change or clean hydraulic filter.
Defective or open relief valve - Change or close relief valve.
Worn or faulty transmission components - Check and replace faulty components.
Input drive shaft failure - Change or repair faulty drive shaft.
Hydraulic system is leaking air - Bleed hydraulic system.

Drive system overheating

Insufficient hydraulic fluid - Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary.
Hydraulic fluid filter is dirty - Replace hydraulic filter.
Relief valve is damaged or worn - Change or repair defective relief valve.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump is worn - Inspect and change as required.

Hydraulic system overheating

Hydraulic pressure is not correct - Adjust pressure as required.

Jerky operation of the bucket or boom

Hydraulic pump makes excessive noise

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery does not charge

Corroded or loose cable connections - Clean or tighten wiring connections.
Battery terminal clamps are defective - Install new terminal clamps.
Battery is defective - Install a new battery.
Defective or loose belt - Adjust belt tension or replace belt.

Starter turns slowly

Low battery voltage - Battery is drained, recharge it.
Battery discharges quickly - Service or replace the battery.
Bad terminals or disconnected battery cables - Check cables and service or change terminals.

Starter will not crank

Battery is low or faulty - Recharge or change battery.
Wiring is improperly connected or disconnected - Check wiring and connect properly.
