Gehl RT175 Track Loader Troubleshooting

The Gehl RT175 compact track loader driveline system components: a 202.5 cu.in (3.3L) Yanmar 4TNV98C 4-cylinder liquid-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 69.3 hp (51.7 kW), and two-speed transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated flow of 18.5 gpm (70 lpm). The system pressure is 3000 psi (207 bar). The Gehl RT175 is equipped with a radial-lift loader boom, automatic track tension system, undercarriage with 3 steel rollers and rubber tracks. The loader has a boom lift force of 5016 lbs (2275 kg) and bucket breakout force of 5355 lbs (2430 kg). The rated operating capacity is 1750 lbs (795 kg), and tipping load is 5000 lbs (2270 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts hard or will not start

There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Fuel filter element clogging - Clean the filter or install new filter element.
Burnt or clogged injection nozzle - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Water or dirt in fuel system - Drain, flush, and service the system.
Valve out of adjustment - Correct valve clearance.

Diesel starts and stops

Clogged air filter - Change or service air filter element.

Engine stops unexpectedly during operation

Low coolant temperature - Warm up the engine.
Fuel filter is plugged - Service or replace the filter.
Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged - Change fuel injection nozzles.
Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing - Adjust as recommended.

Engine stops at low idle speed

Low idle speed setting is not correct - Correct the settings.
Fuel injection pump malfunctioning - Rebuild or replace pump.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Improper valve clearance - Adjust to proper valve clearance.

Engine power is too low

Plugged air filter - Clean or change.

Incorrectly adjusted low idle speed - Normalize low idle speed.

Engine overheating

Insufficient coolant fluid - Add coolant fluid and inspect the cooling system for leaks.
Engine oil level low - Need to add engine oil.
Radiator core is dirty or radiator cap is damaged - Clean radiator or replace cap.
Loose or damaged fan belt - The fan belt needs to be replaced.
Engine is overloaded - Load reducing required.

Low oil pressure

Low oil level - Need to add oil.
Oil filter element clogging - Change or clean engine oil filter element.
Incorrect oil viscosity - Use oil of proper viscosity.
Main bearing oil clearance is excessive - Replace bearings.
Worn oil pump - Install a new pump.

Engine knocking or noise

Not enough engine oil - Need to add engine oil.

Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.

Machine does not drive straight or drives jerky

Jammed or damaged undercarriage tracks - Repair or remedy jamming.
Tracks are improperly tensioned or faulty - Adjust track tension or replace tracks.
Foreign objects, debris, or dirt jammed in track frame - Remove debris or foreign objects and clean track frame.

Loss of power

Plugged hydraulic oil filter - Replace or service hydraulic filter.
Relief valve is worn or opened - Replace or close relief valve.
Worn or faulty transmission components - Check and replace defective components.
Input drive shaft is stuck - Faulty drive shaft need to be replaced or repair.
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.

Drive system overheats

Hydraulic oil level is low - Need to add oil.
Clogged hydraulic fluid filter - Replace or clean hydraulic filter.
Stuck relief valve - Change or repair relief valve.
Damaged drive pump or hydraulic motor - Check and repair if required.
Dirty oil cooler - Clean the cooling fins.
Transmission overloading - Load needs to be reduced.

Drive system is excessively noisy

Oil viscosity is too heavy - Use oil of proper viscosity.

Battery won’t charge

Starter cranks slowly

Low battery power - Recharge the battery.
Battery runs out quickly - Service charging system or change battery.
Faulty battery terminals or disconnected cables - Check cables and service or change terminals.

Starter is not working

Battery is discharged or worn - Battery needs to be recharged or replaced.
Battery cables are disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect cables and connect properly.
Low battery capacity - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Damaged starter motor - Starter should be changed.
