John Deere 3032E, 3036E, 3038E - Service Electrical

Checking Battery Electrolyte Level

Add only distilled water to replace battery electrolyte. Park the machine safely. Remove battery cell caps. Make sure cap vents are not plugged. Check electrolyte level. Electrolyte should be approximately halfway between bottom of filler neck and top of plates. Do not overfill battery. Electrolyte can overflow when battery is charged and cause damage. Add only distilled water if necessary. Install battery cell caps.

John Deere 3032E, 3036E, 3038E tractor - Removing and Installing Battery

Park machine safely. Raise hood. Disconnect negative (-) battery cable. Push red cover back away from positive (+) battery cable and remove cable from battery. Loosen bolts and remove battery compartment hold- down brackets. Remove battery. Install battery into John Deere 3032E, 3036E, 3038E tractor. Connect positive (+) cable to battery positive (+) terminal first, then negative (-) cable to battery negative (-) terminal. Apply spray lubricant to terminals to prevent corrosion. Slide red cover over positive battery cable. Install battery compartment hold-down brackets and bolts. Do not overtighten. Lower hood.

John Deere 3032E, 3036E, 3038E tractor - Cleaning Battery and Terminals

Park machine safely. Disconnect and remove battery. Wash battery with solution of four tablespoons of baking soda to one gallon of water. Be careful not to get the soda solution into the cells. Rinse the battery with plain water and dry. Clean terminals and battery cable ends with wire brush until bright. Install battery. Attach cables to battery terminals using washers and nuts. Apply spray lubricant to terminal to prevent corrosion.

Booster Battery

Do not jump start or charge a frozen battery. Warm battery to 16C (60F). Do not connect the negative (-) booster cable to the negative (-) terminal of the discharged battery. Connect at a good ground location away from the discharged battery. Connect positive (+) booster cable to booster battery (A) positive (+) post. Connect the other end of positive (+) booster cable to the disabled vehicle battery positive (+) post. Connect negative (–) booster cable to booster battery negative (–) post. Electric charge from booster battery can damage machine components. Do not install negative booster cable to machine frame. Install only to the engine block. Install negative booster cable away from moving parts in the engine compartment, such as belts and fan blades. Connect the other end of negative (–) booster cable to a metal part of the disabled machine engine block away from battery. Start the JD 3032E, 3036E, 3038E engine of the disabled machine and run machine for several minutes. Carefully disconnect the booster cables in the exact reverse order: negative cable first and then the positive cable.

Replacing Headlight Bulb

Park machine safely. Raise hood. Rotate harness counter-clockwise to unlock, and carefully remove from light. Do not touch the new bulb with bare hands. Use a clean cloth to install, and hold the bulb only by the metal base. Remove bulb from harness and install new bulb. Install harness into light and rotate clockwise to lock in place. Check operation of headlights. Lower hood.

Replacing Light Bulbs

Park machine safely. Remove two screws and lens. Pull bulb straight out to remove. Do not twist bulb. Push new bulb into socket. Check operation of taillights. Install lens and screws.

Replacing Warning Light Bulb

Park machine safely. Remove two screws and lens. Push down and rotate bulb to remove. Do not twist bulb. Push down and rotate new bulb into socket. Check operation of warning lights. Install lens and screws.

Replacing Fuses

The JD 3032E, 3036E, 3038E electrical system may be damaged if incorrect replacement fuses are used. Replace the bad fuse with a fuse of the same amp rating. Park machine safely. Remove cover in front panel to access fuse block through opening. Pull defective fuse from socket. Push new fuse into socket.
