Massey Ferguson 1040 Periodic Maintenance

Every Ten Hours or Daily

Engine oil level checking. If after checking the oil level is low, add it.

Transmission oil level checking. When transmission oil is low, add recommended volume.

Check engine air filter element. Replace if required.

Check radiator coolant level. If the coolant level is low, top it up.

Check engine idle speed, steering, hand brake and service brakes. If damages are found, repair it.

Every 50 Hours

Inspect front and rear tires. If required, inflate the tires.

Test battery charging. If the charge level is low, charge the battery.

Checking the oil in front axle. Top up as necessary.

Check the oil in hydraulic tank. If necessary, add hydraulic oil to the system.

Lubricate the front axle bearing assembly.

Inspect tractor for loose nuts and bolts.

Every 200 hours

Changing engine oil. Recommended oil - 10W-30, 15W-40, 20W-40. How much is required: Engine Oil Capacity - 4.2 qt (3.9 L). When the procedure is complete, check the engine oil level.

Replacing engine oil filter. Filter part number - 72118856. When installing a new filter, flush the filter housing from dirt. After installing a new filter, check the oil level. If after checking the oil level is low, add it.

Transmission/hydraulic oil change. Recommended transmission/hydraulic oil: Permatran 821XL, SAE 10W-30. Transmission fluid capacity: 10.4 gal (39.3 L). After changing the transmission/hydraulic fluid, check the level with a dipstick.

Change front axle lubricant. Front Axle Oil Type - Permatran. Front Axle Oil Capacity - 6.9 qt (6.8 L).

Clean the radiator grill from dust and dirt.

Inspect alternator/fan belt. Change if necessary.

Check wheel bolt torque.

Every 400 Hours

Inspect and service engine primary air filter. Part number: 1031436M91. Replace as required.

Check and change engine secondary air filter elements. Engine air filter part number: 773101M2.

Change engine fuel filter. Engine fuel filter part number: 72098616 (Spin-on). Check the correct operation of fuel injection pump.

Change hydraulic filter. Hydraulic filter part number: 3435446M1. When installation procedure is complete, check the hydraulic oil level. If required, add it.

Check cooling system for leaks. If coolant is low, top up.

Check engine idle. Adjust engine idle as required.

Inspect all hoses and tubes. Tighten as recommended.

Adjust parking and service brakes.

Change filter and engine oil. Service oil system components.

Install a new primary and secondary air filter elements.

Replace transmission/hydraulic oil.

Replace hydraulic filter.

Change the fuel filter, but drain water from fuel tank first.

Clean oil cooler fins and radiator.

Drain, flush and refill engine cooling system. Cooling System Capacity - 8.5 qt (8 L).

Inspect all hoses and clamps.

Check and service the battery.

Adjust engine valve clearance.

Inspect and adjust diesel fuel pump.
