Massey Ferguson 231S Periodic Maintenance

Every 10 Hours or Daily

Motor oil level checking. If the oil level is too low, add new oil.

Transmission/hydraulic fluid level checking. When the transmission/hydraulic fluid is low, fill the required volume.

Engine air filters checking. Replace if required.

Check coolant level in radiator. If the coolant level is low, add it.

Check engine idle speed, steering unit, hand brake and service brakes. If malfunctions are found, repair it.

Every 50 Hours

Checking the air pressure of tyres. Inflate if required.

Check battery charge. Charge the battery if necessary.

Check front axle oil level. Add if required.

Check hydraulic fluid level. If necessary, add hydraulic fluid to the system.

Lubricate the rear and front wheel bearings.

Inspect tractor for loose nuts and bolts.

Every 250 hours

Engine oil change. Recommended motor oil: SAE 10W-30, 15W-40, 20W-40. API service classification SE, SF, CC, CD. How much to pour: Engine Oil Capacity - 7.2 qt (6.8 L). After adding engine oil, check the level with a dipstick.

Oil filter changing. Filter part number - 1447048M2. Before replacing, remove dirt from the filter housing. After replacing the filter, check the oil level. If required, add it.

Check or replacing engine primary air filter elements. Change if necessary. Air filter part number - 3824034M1.

Inspect engine secondary air filter element. Replace as required. Part number - 3824033V1.

Clean radiator grill from dirt.

Inspect fan/alternator belt. Change if necessary.

Check the torque of the wheel bolts.

Every 500 Hours

Change fuel filter. Engine fuel filter part number: 836218V92. Check diesel fuel pump adjustment.

Replacing steering fluid filter element. Steering filter element part number - 0013945U1. When installation is complete, check the fluid level. Add fluid if necessary. Steering Oil Capacity - 0.9 qt (0.85 L).

Change front axle lubricant. Front Axle Oil Type - Permatran.

Inspect all tubes and hoses. Tighten as required.

Every 1000 Hours

Transmission/hydraulic fluid change. Recommended transmission/hydraulic fluid type - Permatran 821XL, SAE 10W-30. Transmission/Hydraulic Oil Capacity - 9.2 gal (35 L). Fill with the new transmission fluid up to the upper notch on the dipstick.

Perform hydraulic filter element replacement. Hydraulic filter part number: 3771122V92. When installation procedure is complete, check the hydraulic oil level. Add fluid if required.

Check the coolant in radiator. If coolant is low, top up.

Check engine idling. If necessary, adjust the engine idle speed.

Check brake adjustment.

Change filter and engine oil. Check and clean the oil system.

Change hydraulic filter and fill the hydraulic/transmission system with fresh oil.

Drain water from fuel tank and replace fuel filters.

Clean oil cooler fins and radiator.

Flush the cooling system and refill with new coolant. Cooling System Capacity - 2.8 gal (10.7 L).

Inspect all hoses and clamps.

Check and service the battery.

Check engine valve clearance.

Check and adjust fuel injection nozzle.
