Kubota L5450 Engine Troubleshooting

Engine difficult to start or won't start: Fuel filter plugged. Clean the filter element. Air in fuel tank. Bleed fuel tank. Clogged injection nozzle. If necessary, replace with a new nozzle. Fuel injection pump is not working correctly. Change pump or rebuild it.

Engine stalls after running: Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect. Adjust according to specifications. Fuel filter element is clogged. Filter maintenance required. Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature. Warm up the engine.

Diesel starts but stalls immediately: Fuel filter plugged. Replace filter element. Fuel injection pump malfunction. Rebuild or replace pump. Plugged air filter. Service or replace the air filter.

Engine overheating: Clogged radiator core or damaged radiator cap. Replace cap or clean radiator. Lack of engine coolant. Add coolant and check the components of cooling system. Broken or loose fan belt. If necessary, replace the belt. Engine oil level low. Need to add engine oil.

Engine power is reduced: Fuel injection nozzles are dirty or defective. Test injection nozzles and change if necessary. Dirt in the fuel hoses or lines. Clean fuel system hoses and lines. Abnormal engine noise or knocking: Low coolant temperature. Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine. Engine oil insufficient. Need to add engine oil. Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect. Adjust as recommended. Broken or worn pistons. Replace the pistons as required. Faulty or misaligned connecting rod. Connecting rod needs to be replaced or aligned.

Engine stops at low idle speed: Incorrectly adjusted low idle speed. Correct the settings. Valve clearance is wrong. Check and adjust as required. Fuel injection pump is not working correctly. Install a new fuel pump or repair.

Insufficient oil pressure: Low oil level. Add oil to the engine crankcase. Oil pump is defective. Check and replace if necessary. Clogged oil filter element. Replace or service engine oil filter.

Transmission makes excessive noise: Gears are defective or backlash is improper. Adjust backlash correctly or replace the gears. Shift forks are worn or bent. Shift forks need to be replaced. Stuck or worn shaft splines. Change the shaft. Transmission fluid insufficient. Checking transmission fluid level and add if necessary. Worn or damaged bearings. Replace faulty bearings. Transmission fluid is contaminated. Change the fluid.

Hard to shift gears: Gear shift linkage is corroded or worn. Lubricate or replace the shift linkage. Clutch is out of adjustment or defective. Adjust or change the clutch. Damaged or worn gear shift forks. Shift forks need to be changed. Worn parts of the gear shifting mechanism. Change worn parts.

Insufficient transmission oil pressure: Low oil level. Add oil to the transmission housing. Transmission fluid filter is clogged (if fitted). Service or replace the transmission fluid filter. Relief valve is damaged. Replace relief valve.

Transmission fluid leakage: Broken seals or gaskets. Replace worn seal or gaskets. High transmission oil level. Correct the oil level.

Excessive hydraulic system heat: Hydraulic oil type is incorrect. Pour the correct type of oil. Dirty hydraulic oil. The oil must be changed. Air in the hydraulic system. Air bleeding. Main relief valve is defective. Relief valve need to be replaced.

Low hydraulic system pressure: Hydraulic oil is insufficient. Need to add oil. Clogged hydraulic fluid filter. Change the hydraulic filter element or service if required. Leaks in hydraulic pipes. Starter turning slow: Low battery output voltage. Recharge the battery. Battery discharges quickly. Service battery or change it. Disconnected wires or corroded battery terminals. Check cable connections and change or clean terminals.
