Engine starts hard or won't start: Fuel filter plugging. Clean or replace the filter. Air in the fuel pipes. Bleed the fuel pipes. Fuel injection nozzles are clogged or faulty. Check and replace nozzles if required. Fuel injection pump is defective. Install a new pump or rebuild.
Engine shuts off while running: Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect. Set it up as required. Fuel filter element is dirty. Service the filter. Low coolant temperature. Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature.
Engine starts but then stalls: Clogged fuel filter. Replace filter element. Fuel injection pump failure. Replace or repair injection pump. Dirty air filter element. Carry out maintenance on air filter.
Engine overheats: Dirty radiator core or defective radiator cap. Clean radiator or replace cap. Low engine coolant. Refill to the correct level and inspect system for leaks. Fan belt is loose or defective. Replace the fan belt. Low engine oil level. Check oil level and add oil as required.
