ASV RC-50 Track Loader Troubleshooting

The ASV Posi-Track RC-50 compact track loader driveline system components: a 135 cu.in (2.2L) Perkins 404C-22 4-cycle 4-cylinder indirect injection diesel engine with a rated power of 50 hp (37.3 kW), and 1-speed hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated flow of 16.3 gpm (61.7 lpm). The system pressure is 3000 psi (207 bar). The ASV RC50 is equipped with a radial-lift loader boom, axial-piston drive pumps, and suspended undercarriage with 15" (380 mm) rubber tracks. The loader has a max lift height of 115.5" (2920 mm) to hinge pin. The rated operating capacity is 1330 lbs (603 kg), and tipping load is 3800 lbs (1725 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine difficult to start or will not start

Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Fuel filter element clogging - Change filter element.
Burnt or defective injection nozzle - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Water or dirt in fuel system - Drain, flush, and service the system.
Excessive valve clearance - Adjust valve clearance.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Repair or install new pump.

Engine stalls after starting

Air cleaner is dirty - Clean or replace element.
Fuel filter element clogging - Replace filter element.
Poor fuel injection pump tightness - Look for any leaks of fuel pump, tighten it fast.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump is defective - Change pump or rebuild it.

Engine stops suddenly during operation

Engine is cold - Warm up the engine as required.
Clogged fuel filter - Install new filter element.
Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Clogged injection nozzle - Test injection nozzles and change if necessary.
Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted - Adjust fuel injection pump as required.

Engine stops when idle

Low idle speed adjustment is incorrect - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Fuel injection pump is faulty - Install a new fuel pump or repair.
Defective fuel injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Valve clearance is wrong - Adjust valve clearance.

Engine power is insufficient

Dirty air cleaner - Install new air cleaner element.
Clogged or defective injection nozzles - Check injection nozzles and replace if required.
Fuel injection pressure is wrong - Adjust to proper pressure.
Excessive valve clearance - Adjustment procedure required.
Too low idle RPM - Adjustment required.
Fuel hoses or lines are clogged - Clean fuel lines and hoses.
Damaged cylinder-head gasket - Gasket should be replaced.
Defective or worn piston rings - Change piston rings.

Engine overheated

Engine coolant is insufficient - Add coolant fluid to cooling system and also check it for leaks.
Engine oil level low - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Dirty radiator core or defective radiator cap - Change cap or clean radiator.
Loose or damaged fan belt - Replace the fan belt.
Diesel engine is overloaded - Load reducing required.

Oil pressure is low

Engine oil level low - Add oil to the engine crankcase.
Oil filter is dirty - Replace or clean engine oil filter element.
Wrong oil viscosity - Use oil of correct viscosity.
Incorrect crankshaft bearing oil clearance - Replace bearings.
Oil pump is defective - Repair or change.

Engine knocking sound or abnormal noise

Not enough engine oil - Check oil level and add oil as required.
Engine is not preheated - Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.
Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted - Set up as recommended.
Incorrectly adjusted low idle speed - Correct the settings.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Misaligned or faulty connecting rod - Align or replace connecting rod.
Piston wear or scoring - Install new pistons.

Drive System Troubleshooting

Machine is not moving in one direction or either direction

Hydraulic oil level is low - Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary.
Jammed or damaged undercarriage tracks - Remove jamming or repair tracks.
Relief valve failure - Relief valve need to be replaced or repair.
Clogged hydraulic filter or suction line - Clean suction line or replace hydraulic filter.
Faulty hand or foot controls - Replace or repair.
Drive motor or pump is defective - Repair or replace faulty component.

Machine will not move straight or moves jerkily

Undercarriage tracks are jammed or defective - Remedy jamming or repair tracks.
Tracks are sagging or worn - Adjust track sag with tensioning or replace tracks.
Undercarriage track frame is clogged with dirt, debris, or foreign objects - Remove debris or foreign objects and clean track frame.

Power is too low

Hydraulic oil filter is plugged - Replace or service hydraulic filter.
Damaged or opened relief valve - Replace or close relief valve.
Transmission components are faulty or damaged - Inspect and replace faulty parts.
Input drive shaft is defective - Change or repair faulty drive shaft.
There is air in the hydraulic system - Air bleeding is required.

Drive system is overheated

Insufficient hydraulic oil - Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary.
Dirty hydraulic fluid filter - Change or service hydraulic filter.
Relief valve failure - Repair or replace relief valve.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump is worn - Inspect and change as required.
Dirty oil cooler - Clean cooling fins as required.
Drive system is overloaded - Reduce drive system load.

Drive system is excessively noisy

Incorrect oil viscosity - Use correct oil viscosity.
Hydraulic system is leaking air - Bleed air from hydraulic system.
Drive pump or hydraulic motor is damaged - Change or repair faulty component.
Mechanical components of drive system are defective or worn - Check the components for worn or defect and replace if necessary.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system has overheating

Hydraulic pressure incorrectly adjusted - Hydraulic pressure must be set correctly.
Defective or misadjusted main relief valve - Adjust the valve or replace if necessary.
Contaminated hydraulic fluid - Hydraulic fluid change required.
Hydraulic fluid level is low - Fill the hydraulic system with oil.
Hydraulic pump is defective - Change or repair hydraulic pump if required.

Lift arm cannot be raised or lowered

Faulty lift controls - Repair or replace.
Defective hydraulic pump - Repair or replace pump if necessary.
Hydraulic control valve malfunction - Install a new valve or repair it.
Hydraulic cylinder failure - Change or repair lift cylinder.
Low hydraulic fluid level - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.

Bucket does not tilt

Bucket controls are faulty - Replace or repair.

Hydraulic bucket cylinder not working - Repair or replace cylinder.
Low hydraulic fluid level - Add fluid as required.

Slow boom or bucket operation

Hydraulic pump is defective - Test the pump flow rate and change pump if required.
Leaking hydraulic cylinder - Change cylinder piston seals.
Hydraulic oil is insufficient - Fill the system to proper hydraulic oil level.
Hydraulic control valve is not set properly or defective - Repair or adjust correctly.
Hydraulic pressure is low - Hydraulic pressure must be set correctly.

Bucket or boom is moving jerkily

Air trapped in hydraulic system - Air bleeding is required.
Clogged hydraulic oil filter element - Clean or install new filter.
Dirty hydraulic oil - Hydraulic oil change required.
Scratched cylinder rod or tube - Replace damaged component.

Excessive hydraulic pump noise

Hydraulic leakage or low oil level - Refill hydraulic oil or repair leaks in system.
Clogged hydraulic filter - Change or clean oil filter.
Clogged suction line - Suction line must be serviced.
Air in hydraulic pump - Bleed air.
Damaged pump components - Rebuild or change hydraulic pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery will not charge

Electrical cable connections are loose or corroded - Service or tighten connections.
Battery terminal clamps are defective - Terminal clamps should be changed.
Dead cell in battery - Use a new battery.
Belt is worn or loose - Change belt or adjust belt tension.

Starter turning slow

Battery voltage is low - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Battery is draining quickly - Service or change the battery.
Bad battery terminals or disconnected wiring - Check cables and clean or change terminals.

Starter is not working

Battery is discharged or defective - Recharge or replace battery.
Battery cables are disconnected or improperly connected - Inspect cables and connect properly.
Low battery output - Charge the battery.
Damaged starter motor - Starter should be replaced.
