ASV VT-70 Track Loader Troubleshooting

The ASV VT70 compact track loader is powered by Deutz TCD2.2-T4 4-cylinder diesel engine with a rated power of 74.3 hp (55.4 kW) or Kubota V2403-CR-TIE4 4-cylinder diesel engine with a rated power of 65 hp (48.6 kW). The ASV VT-70 is equipped with a 2-speed hydrostatic transmission, vertical-lift loader boom, and suspended undercarriage with 15" (380 mm) rubber tracks. The hydraulic system has a standard pump with fluid flow rate of 23 gpm (87.1 lpm). The hydraulic pressure is 3300 psi (227 bar). The loader has a rated operating capacity of 2328 lbs (1055 kg) and tipping load of 6650 lbs (3015 kg). The max lift height is 126.5" (3215 mm) to hinge pin.

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine hard to start or will not start

Air in fuel system - Bleed fuel system.
Fuel filter plugging - Replace filter element.
Faulty or dirty injection nozzles - Clean or replace injection nozzles.
Dirt or water in fuel system - Drain water or flush dirt from the system.
Incorrect valve clearance - Need to adjust valve clearance.
Fuel injection pump malfunction - Change or repair the pump.

Diesel starts but then stops

Plugged air cleaner - Clean or replace air cleaner element.
Dirty fuel filter - Change or clean the filter element.
Fuel injection pump is leaking - Repair any leaks.
Dirty or defective injectors - Clean fuel injectors or change it.
Fuel injection pump is not working correctly - Replace injection pump or repair it.

Engine stalls during operation

Engine is cold - Warm up to required temperature.
Fuel filter is plugged - Clean the filter or install new filter element.
Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Clogged or burnt injection nozzle - Test injection nozzles and change if necessary.
Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect - Adjust as recommended.

Engine stops when idling

Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Damaged fuel injection pump - Replace or repair injection pump.
Fuel injectors are faulty or clogged - Change or clean fuel injectors.
Valve clearance is wrong - Adjustment procedure required.

Diesel engine loses power

Air filter is plugged - Clean or change filter.
Defective injection nozzle - Clean or replace injection nozzles.
Improper fuel injection pressure - Correct the pressure settings.
Improper valve clearance - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Incorrect low idle speed adjustment - Adjust the low idle speed.
Restricted fuel hoses or lines - Fuel lines and hoses need to be cleaned.
Defective cylinder head gasket - Install new cylinder head gasket.
Piston rings are broken or leaking - Install new piston rings.

Engine overheating

Insufficient coolant fluid - Add coolant and check the components of cooling system.
Insufficient engine oil - Fill up the engine oil.
Damaged radiator cap or dirty radiator core - Change cap or clean radiator.
Excessive wear of the fan belt - Replace as required.
Engine overload - Reduce load on the engine.

Oil pressure too low

Low oil level - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Oil filter element clogged - Service or change engine oil filter element.
Improper type of engine oil - Use proper viscosity oil.
Crankshaft bearing has excessive oil clearance - Change bearings.
Worn oil pump - Inspect and change as required.

Engine noises or knocks

Engine oil level is low - Checking oil level and add if necessary.
Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature - Warm up engine as required.
Fuel injection pump timing is wrong - Adjust the pump as required.
Wrong adjustment of low idle speed - Correct the settings.
Dirty or defective injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Connecting rod is worn or not aligned - Alignment procedure or replacement is required.
Piston wear or scoring - Pistons replacement required.

Drive System Troubleshooting

Drive system doesn't work in either direction

Hydraulic fluid level low - Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level.
Undercarriage tracks are defective or jammed - Fix jamming or repair tracks.
Relief valve is not working correctly - Repair or replace relief valve.
Suction line or hydraulic filter is plugged - Clean suction line or replace hydraulic filter.
Foot or hand controls are damaged - Repair or change.
Drive pump or motor is damaged - Check and repair if required.

Machine is not driving straight or driving is jerky

Track mechanism is jammed or defective - Repair or remove jamming.
Tracks are loose or faulty - Adjust track tension or replace tracks.
Undercarriage track frame is clogged with dirt, debris, or foreign objects - Clean undercarriage track frame, remove foreign objects and debris.

Reduced power

Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Check, clean, or replace as required.
Worn or open relief valve - Replace or close relief valve.
Transmission parts are damaged or faulty - Inspect and replace faulty parts.
Stuck input drive shaft - Service or change faulty drive shaft.
Air leaks in hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.

Drive system overheats

Hydraulic fluid level low - Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary.
Hydraulic fluid filter is clogged - Check, clean, or change as necessary.
Stuck relief valve - Rebuild or install a new relief valve.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump is defective - Inspect and change as required.
Hydraulic oil cooler is plugged - Cooling fins should be cleaned.
Drive system overloaded continuously - Load should be reduced.

Drive system makes excessive noise

Oil viscosity is wrong - Use correct oil viscosity.
Air in hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump is worn - Inspect and change as required.
Mechanical parts of drive system are worn or damaged - Check the components for defect or damage and change if necessary.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system has overheating

Hydraulic pressure incorrectly adjusted - Set pressure correctly.
Main relief valve is faulty or misadjusted - Replace or set up the relief valve.
Hydraulic oil is dirty - Hydraulic oil change required.
Not enough hydraulic fluid in the system - Need to add fluid.
Worn hydraulic oil pump - Install new pump or repair it.

Lift arm fails to drop or lift

Lift controls failure - Check and repair as required.
Hydraulic pump failure - Change or repair hydraulic pump if required.
Defective hydraulic control valve - Repair or change hydraulic valve.
Damaged hydraulic cylinder - Repair or change hydraulic cylinder.

Bucket does not tilt

Bucket tilt controls are defective - Replace or repair.

Defective bucket cylinder - Repair or change cylinder.
Insufficient hydraulic oil - Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary.

Boom or bucket functions slowly

Hydraulic pump is defective - Check hydraulic pump flow and replace pump if necessary.
Hydraulic cylinder leaking - Replace cylinder piston seals.
Low hydraulic fluid level - Fill up the hydraulic fluid.
Damaged or incorrect adjusted hydraulic control valve - Set correctly or repair.
Hydraulic pressure is low - Correct setting is required.

Bucket or boom is working jerkily

Hydraulic system is leaking air - Need to bleed air.
Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Clean or change the filter.
Dirty hydraulic oil - The oil must be changed.
Scored cylinder tube or rod - Change damaged component.

Hydraulic pump is noisy

Not enough oil or hydraulic system leaking - Remedy hydraulic leakage or refill oil as necessary.
Hydraulic filter is dirty - Change or clean oil filter.
Suction line clogging - Service the suction line.
Air trapped in hydraulic pump - Bleed air.
Pump components are worn out - Change or rebuild pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery does not charge

Corroded or loose electrical wire connections - Tighten or clean electrical wiring connections.
Defective electrical terminal connectors - Change terminal connectors.
Battery bad cell - Install a new battery.
Belt is loose or defective - Replace belt or adjust belt tension.

Starter motor cranks slow

Battery power is low - Charge the battery.
Battery is draining quickly - Service charging system or replace battery.
Terminals are faulty or battery cables are disconnected - Connect wires properly or change terminals.

Starter does not work

Battery is discharged or worn - Recharge or replace battery.
Wiring is incorrectly connected or disconnected - Inspect wiring and connect correctly.
Low battery capacity - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Starter motor is faulty - Repair or replace starter.
