Gehl 4625DX Skid Steer Troubleshooting

The Gehl 4625DX skid steer loader driveline system components: a 134.1 cu.in (2.2L) Kubota V2203 4-cylinder naturally aspirated diesel engine with a rated power of 45.4 hp (33.8 kW), and 1-speed hydrostatic transmission. The hydraulic system has a pump with a rated capacity of 18 gpm (68.2 lpm) or 32 gpm (121.3 lpm). The system relief pressure is 3000 psi (207 bar). The Gehl 4625 DX is equipped with a radial-lift loader boom, 80H roller chains, and 10.5x15 or 29-12.5x15. The skid steer has a max lift height of 114.8" (2915 mm) to hinge pin and dump height of 90.9" (2310 mm). The rated operating capacity is 1350 lbs (615 kg), and tipping load is 2700 lbs (1230 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts up hard or won't start

There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Dirty fuel filter - Replace the filter element.
Clogged or defective injection nozzles - Check injection nozzles and replace if required.
Dirt or water in fuel system - Drain water or flush dirt from the system.
The valve clearance is not adjusted - Adjustment procedure required.
Faulty fuel injection pump - Repair or change injection pump.

Engine starts and immediately shuts off

Plugged air filter - Clean or change.
Clogged fuel filter - Replace the filter element.
Problems with fuel injection pump tightness - Inspect fuel injection pump for leaks.
Defective or clogged fuel injectors - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump is faulty - Repair or replace injection pump.

Engine shuts off suddenly during operation

Low coolant temperature - Warm up the engine.
Fuel filter is plugged - Change filter element.
There is air in the fuel system - Bleed the system.
Defective injection nozzle - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing - Set up as recommended.

Engine stalls while idle

Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Adjustment required.
Fuel injection pump is damaged - Rebuild or replace pump.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.
Valve clearance is out of adjustment - Check and adjust as required.

Diesel engine loses power

Clogged air filter - Change or service air filter element.
Clogged injection nozzle - Change fuel injection nozzles.
Improper fuel injection pressure - Correct the pressure settings.
Valve clearance is out of adjustment - Have it adjusted.
Incorrectly set low idle speed - Adjust as required.
Fuel lines or hoses clogging - Clean fuel system lines and hoses.
Blown cylinder head gasket - Replace cylinder head gasket.
Piston rings are broken or leaking - Piston rings need to be replaced.

Engine overheats

Low engine coolant - The cooling system needs to be refilled and checked for faults.
Insufficient engine oil - Need to add engine oil.
Clogged radiator core or damaged radiator cap - Install new cap or clean radiator.
Fan belt is loose or defective - Replace as required.
Engine overload - Reduce engine load.

Oil pressure is insufficient

Engine oil level low - Fill the crankcase with oil.
Engine oil filter is plugged - Service or replace engine oil filter.
Wrong oil viscosity - Use proper viscosity oil.
Excessive crankshaft bearing oil clearance - Install new bearings.
Oil pump is defective - Install a new pump.

Engine knocking or noise

Engine oil level low - Need to add engine oil.
Engine not warmed up - Warm up the engine to required temperature.
Improper fuel injection timing - Adjust fuel injection pump as required.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Adjust low idling as recommended.
Fuel injector fault - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Connecting rod is defective or misaligned - Replace or align connecting rod.

Drive System Troubleshooting

Machine is not moving forward or backward

Insufficient hydraulic oil - Need to add oil.
Drive chain is worn - Inspect drive chain and replace defective parts.
Worn input drive shaft - Replace drive shaft.
Worn or damaged relief valve - Repair or change.
Plugged hydraulic filter or suction line - Change hydraulic filter or service suction line.
Worn or defective hand or foot controls - Inspect and repair if necessary.
Drive motor or pump failure - Repair or replace faulty component.

Low power

Dirty hydraulic oil filter - Replace or service hydraulic filter.
Relief valve is defective or open - Change or close relief valve.
Faulty or damaged transmission components - Inspect and change faulty parts.
Input drive shaft failure - Faulty drive shaft need to be replaced or repair.
Air in hydraulic system - Need to bleed air.

Overheated drive system

Low hydraulic fluid level - Add fluid as required.
Dirty hydraulic fluid filter - Change or clean hydraulic filter.
Relief valve defective or worn - Repair or replace.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump is defective - Inspect and replace as necessary.
Hydraulic oil cooler is dirty - Cooling fins should be cleaned.
Drive system overloaded continuously - Reduce drive system load.

Excessive noise

Oil viscosity is too heavy - Use correct oil viscosity.
Air trapped in hydraulic system - Need to bleed air.
Drive pump or hydraulic motor malfunction - Repair or replace faulty component.
Worn or damaged mechanical components of drive system - Check drive system and change faulty parts.

Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system overheated

Hydraulic pressure is not adjusted correctly - Set pressure correctly.
Main relief valve malfunction or improper adjustment - Adjust relief valve or change if required.
Hydraulic oil is contaminated - Change hydraulic oil.
Hydraulic oil level is low - Fill up the hydraulic oil.

Boom can't lift or drop

Lift arm or bucket is jerky

Air in hydraulic system - Bleed air from hydraulic system.
Hydraulic oil filter element clogging - Clean or change the filter.
Hydraulic fluid is dirty - The fluid must be changed.
Cylinder rod or tube is scuffed - Replace damaged component.

Hydraulic pump is noisy

Leaking hydraulic system or insufficient oil level - Top up hydraulic oil or remedy leakage in system.
Hydraulic filter is dirty - Change or clean oil filter.
Plugged suction line - Need to service the suction line.
Air in hydraulic pump - Bleed air.
Pump components are worn out - Rebuild or replace hydraulic pump.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery cannot be charged

Loose or corroded electrical wiring connections - Clean or tighten connections.
Defective battery terminal clamps - Replace terminal clamps.
Battery dead cell - Battery change required.
Belt is damaged or loose - Adjust belt tension or replace belt.

Starter turning slow

Battery capacity is low - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Battery won’t hold charge - Battery needs service or replacement.
Disconnected cables or faulty battery terminals - Check cable connections and replace or service terminals.

Starter will not work

Battery is low or faulty - Need to charge or replace the battery.
Disconnected or improperly connected wiring harness - Inspect battery wiring harness and connect as required.
Low battery output voltage - Charge the battery.
Damaged starter motor - Starter needs to be changed.
