New Holland 8260 Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts up hard or will not start: Fuel filter element clogging. Change filter element. Air in the fuel pipes. Bleed the fuel pipes. Fuel injection nozzles are damaged or dirty. Check injection nozzles and replace if required. Fuel injection pump is damaged. Change or repair the pump.

Diesel shuts off while driving: Improper fuel injection timing. Set the fuel pump timing correctly. Dirty fuel filter. Filter maintenance required. Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature. Engine is not warmed up to the required temperature.

Diesel starts and stalls immediately: Fuel filter element is clogged. Change filter element. Fuel injection pump is defective. Replace injection pump or repair it. Clogged air cleaner. Clean or change the filter.

Engine is overheated: Dirty radiator core or faulty radiator cap. Change cap or clean radiator. Insufficient coolant. Add coolant fluid to cooling system and also check it for leaks. Broken or loose fan belt. If necessary, replace the belt. Low engine oil level. Add oil to the engine crankcase.

Engine power is too low: Dirty or damaged injection nozzles. Check and replace nozzles if required. Dirt in the fuel hoses or lines. Fuel hoses and lines must be clean. Air filter plugged. Clean or replace the element. Cylinder head gasket is damaged. Replace cylinder head gasket.

Engine knocking sound or abnormal noise: Engine has not warmed up to the recommended temperature. Warm up to required temperature. Engine oil level is insufficient. Add oil to the engine crankcase. Improper fuel injection timing. Adjust the pump as required. Pistons are scored or worn. Replace the pistons as required. Faulty or misaligned connecting rod. Need to replace or align the connecting rod.

Engine stops at idle: Incorrect low idle setting. Adjust the low idle speed. The valve clearance is not adjusted. Adjust valve clearance. Fuel injection pump is defective. Replace injection pump or repair it.

Low oil pressure: Oil level is low. Add oil to the engine crankcase. Oil pump is defective. Replace as required. Clogged oil filter. Change or service engine oil filter.

Transmission is making noise: Backlash is incorrect or gears are damaged. Adjust backlash properly or replace the gears. Worn or bent shift forks. Change defective shift forks. Shaft splines are damaged or worn. Replace defective shaft. Low fluid level. Checking transmission fluid level and add if necessary. Bearings are damaged or worn. Change the bearings. Transmission oil is dirty. Transmission oil change required.

Gears are hard to shift: Gear shift linkage is corroded or worn. Shift linkage need to be replaced. Clutch is worn or not adjusted. Replace or adjust clutch. Shift forks are bent or worn out. Shift forks need to be changed. Gear shifting mechanism is defective. Defective parts must be replaced.

Transmission fluid pressure is insufficient: Transmission fluid insufficient. Checking transmission fluid level and add if necessary. Clogged transmission oil filter element (if fitted). Service or replace the transmission oil filter. Defective relief valve. Change the valve.

Transmission fluid leakage: Broken seals or gaskets. Gaskets or seal replacement required. Transmission oil level is high. Correct the oil volume.

Hydraulic system is too hot: Improper hydraulic fluid type. Use the proper type of hydraulic fluid. Hydraulic oil is contaminated. Fill up with fresh hydraulic oil. Air in hydraulic pipes. Bleed hydraulic pipes. Main relief valve is defective. Relief valve need to be replaced.

Insufficient hydraulic fluid pressure: Low hydraulic oil level. Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary. Clogged hydraulic oil filter element. Clean or replace the hydraulic filter. Leaks in hydraulic lines. Check the system and repair leaks. Incorrect setting hydraulic control valve block. Set correctly. Hydraulic pump is defective. Change or repair hydraulic fluid pump. Hydraulic cylinder not working. Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder.

Hitch does not raise or raises very slowly: Faulty hydraulic pump. Install a new hydraulic fluid pump. Main relief valve malfunction. Replace relief valve. Faulty hydraulic spool valve. Install a new hydraulic valve or repair it. Hydraulic cylinder is faulty. Repair or change hydraulic cylinder. Hydraulic oil is insufficient. Checking hydraulic oil level and add if necessary. Excessive steering wheel free play: Worn steering column coupling or shaft. Change faulty component. Steering pump is faulty. Install a new steering pump. Worn or loose steering linkage assembly. Repair or replace steering linkage. Steering control valve has malfunction or wear. Replace or repair steering control valve as required.

Steering is hard: Air trapped inside steering system. Bleed the steering system. Clogged steering filter. Steering filter maintenance required. Steering oil level is low. Fill up steering oil to required level. Steering control valve has wear or damage. Check and replace as required. Steering pump is faulty. Install a new hydraulic steering pump. Battery will not charge: Wiring connections are corroded or loose. Service or tighten connections. Defective battery terminal clamps. Terminal clamps need to be replaced. Worn-out battery. Replace the battery. Belt is damaged or loose. Adjust belt tension or change the belt.

Starter cranks slowly: Low battery output. Charge the battery. Battery runs out quickly. Service or change the battery. Faulty battery terminals or disconnected cables. Check wiring connections and replace or clean terminals.

Starter will not work: Battery is low or faulty. Recharge or change battery. Wiring harness is disconnected or improperly connected. Check wiring harness and connect as required. Low battery output voltage. Battery is drained, charge it. Faulty starter motor. Starter needs to be changed.
