Powerstar 75 Engine Troubleshooting

Diesel hard to start or doesn't start: Fuel filter element is clogged. Service the filter. Air in fuel system. Bleed fuel system. Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged. Clean or replace injection nozzles. Fuel injection pump is broken. Rebuild or install a new injection pump.

Engine shuts off while running: Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing. Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment. Fuel filter element clogging. Change the filter element. Low coolant temperature. Warm up the engine.

Diesel starts but stalls suddenly: Clogged fuel filter. Service or replace the filter. Fuel injection pump malfunction. Change or repair the pump. Clogged air filter. Replace air filter element.

Engine is overheated: Defective radiator cap or clogged radiator core. Install new cap or clean radiator. Engine has a lack of coolant. Top up coolant fluid and check system for leaks. Excessive wear of the fan belt. Change the fan belt. Engine oil level is insufficient. Need to add engine oil.

Engine loses power: Faulty fuel injection nozzles. Change fuel injection nozzles. Clogged fuel lines or hoses. Clean fuel hoses and lines. Air filter is clogged. Service or replace the air filter. Cylinder-head gasket is leaking. Install a new gasket.

Stuck or worn shaft splines. Shaft need to be changed. Insufficient transmission fluid. Need to add transmission fluid. Worn or damaged bearings. Bearings need to be replaced. Transmission fluid is contaminated. Change the fluid.

Difficult to shift gears: Corroded or worn gear shift linkage. Change or lubricate shift linkage. Clutch is out of adjustment or defective. Adjust clutch or change if necessary. Damaged or worn gear shift forks. Replace the shift forks. Gear shifting mechanism is defective. Defective parts must be replaced.

Insufficient transmission fluid pressure: Transmission fluid insufficient. Checking transmission fluid level and add if necessary. Transmission oil filter element clogging (if equipped). Service or replace the transmission oil filter. Defective relief valve. Change the valve.

External oil leaks: Broken seals or gaskets. Seals and gaskets need to be replaced. Transmission fluid level is high. Correct the fluid level.

Excessive hydraulic system heat: Incorrect type of hydraulic fluid. Use the correct type of fluid. Hydraulic fluid contamination. Change hydraulic fluid. Air in hydraulic pipes. Bleed hydraulic pipes. Main relief valve failure. Install a new relief valve.

Insufficient hydraulic oil pressure: Insufficient hydraulic fluid. Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary. Dirty hydraulic fluid filter. Replace filter element or clean if required. Steering wheel turns hard: Air lock in hydraulic steering system. Bleed the steering system. Steering filter element is clogged. Service or replace the steering filter. Steering oil level low. Add oil to steering system. Power steering control valve has wear or damage. Repair or replace steering control valve. Steering pump is worn. Powerstar 75 Electrical System Troubleshooting

Battery cannot be charged: Loose or corroded electrical wiring connections. Service or tighten connections. Electrical terminal connectors are faulty. Terminal connectors need to be changed. Battery bad cell. Battery replacement required. Loose or worn belt. Belt needs to be adjusted or replaced.

Starter motor turns slow: Low battery power. Battery is drained, charge it. Battery won’t hold charge. Service or replace the battery. Corroded battery terminals or disconnected wires. Connect wiring properly or install new terminals.

Starter does not work: Battery is discharged or worn. Replace or charge as required. Battery wires are disconnected or incorrectly connected. Check wires and connect correctly. Low battery output voltage. Charge the battery. Defective starter motor. Repair or replace starter.
