Engine starts hard or doesn't start: Dirty fuel filter. Service or replace the filter. There is air in the fuel system. Bleed the system. Dirty or damaged injection nozzles. Test injection nozzles and change if necessary. Fuel injection pump malfunctioning. Replacement or repair required.

Engine shuts off suddenly during operation: Improper setting of fuel injection pump timing. Adjust the pump as required. Dirty fuel filter. Service or replace the filter. Low coolant temperature. Warm up the engine.

Diesel starts and stalls immediately: Fuel filter plugged. Filter maintenance required. Fuel injection pump is damaged. Change or repair the pump. Clogged air filter. Replace air filter element.

Engine overheating: Dirty radiator core or defective radiator cap. Change cap or clean radiator. Low engine coolant. Add coolant fluid to cooling system and also check it for leaks. Damaged or worn fan belt. Fan belt must be replaced. Engine oil level low. Check oil level and add oil as required.

Engine is not running at maximum power: Defective or clogged injection nozzle. Replace injection nozzles. Dirty fuel lines or hoses. Service fuel lines and hoses. Air cleaner is dirty. Change air filter element. Damaged cylinder-head gasket. Replace cylinder head gasket.

Engine knocking sound or abnormal noise: Engine is not preheated. Warm up the engine. Not enough engine oil. Need to add engine oil. Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing. Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment. Piston wear or scoring. Install new pistons. Connecting rod failure or misalignment. Align or replace connecting rod.

Engine stalling at idle: Low idle speed setting is incorrect. Adjust low idling as recommended. The valve clearance is not adjusted. Need to adjust valve clearance. Fuel injection pump is faulty. Rebuild or change fuel pump.
