Engine overheating: Radiator core is dirty or radiator cap is damaged. Clean radiator or replace cap. Not enough coolant. The cooling system needs to be refilled and checked for faults. Damaged or worn fan belt. Fan belt must be replaced. Engine oil level is low. Check and refill engine oil.

Diesel power loss: Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged. If necessary, replace with a new nozzle. Restricted fuel hoses or lines. Clean fuel system lines and hoses. Intake air restriction. Clean or replace element. Damaged cylinder-head gasket. Change cylinder head gasket.

Engine knocking or noise: Engine has not warmed up to the recommended temperature. Warm up the engine. Lack of engine oil. Need to add engine oil. Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing. Adjust fuel injection pump as required. Pistons are broken or worn. Replace the pistons. Connecting rod misalignment or failure. Need to replace or align the connecting rod.

Engine stops when idling: Too low idle RPM. Normalize low idle speed. Valve clearance is out of adjustment. Correct valve clearance. Fuel injection pump malfunction. Rebuild or change fuel pump.

Oil pressure is low: Not enough oil in the engine. Add oil as required. Oil pump is damaged. Install a new pump. Oil filter clogging. Change or service engine oil filter.

New Holland TM165 Transmission Troubleshooting

Transmission makes excessive noise: Worn gears or incorrect backlash. Install new gears and adjust backlash properly. Worn or damaged gear shift forks. Replace the shift forks. Damaged or worn shaft splines. Replace the shaft. Low oil level. Check and refill the transmission oil. Worn or broken bearings. Bearings replacement required. Transmission fluid contamination. Fill up with fresh transmission fluid.

Gears are hard to shift: Rusty or worn gear shift linkage. Install a new gear shift linkage. Worn or unadjusted clutch. Clutch replacement or adjustment required. Damaged or worn gear shift forks. Replace the shift forks. Gear shifting mechanism is defective. Defective parts must be replaced.

Transmission fluid pressure is insufficient: Insufficient transmission fluid. Checking transmission fluid level and add if necessary. Transmission oil filter element clogging (if equipped). Clean or replace the transmission filter. Defective relief valve. Replace relief valve as required.

Transmission oil leakage: Seals or gaskets are worn. Seals and gaskets need to be replaced. Transmission fluid level is exceeded. Excess fluid must be drained.

New Holland TM165 Hydraulic System Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system is too hot: Wrong type of hydraulic fluid. Fill up with the correct type of hydraulic fluid. Hydraulic oil is dirty. Hydraulic oil change required. Air trapped in hydraulic system. Bleed air from system. Damaged main relief valve. Relief valve must be changed.

Hydraulic fluid pressure too low: Hydraulic fluid level low. Fill up the hydraulic fluid. Clogged hydraulic fluid filter element. Hydraulic filter maintenance required. Leaking hydraulic pipes. Check the system and repair leaks. Hydraulic spool valve is out of adjustment. Spool valve adjustment required. Hydraulic pump failure. Repair or replace hydraulic oil pump. Faulty hydraulic cylinder. Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder.

Three-point hitch cannot be lifted or lifting is too slow: Hydraulic pump malfunction. Replace or repair hydraulic oil pump. Faulty main relief valve. Relief valve need to be replaced. Defective hydraulic control valve. Install a new hydraulic valve or repair it. Hydraulic cylinder is broken. Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder. Hydraulic fluid is insufficient. Add fluid as required. Clogged hydraulic oil filter. Clean the hydraulic filter or install new filter element. Heavy load on the hitch. Reduce hitch load.

Hitch not lowering or hitch lowers slowly: Defective hydraulic cylinder. Change or repair hydraulic cylinder. Hydraulic spool valve is out of adjustment. Spool valve adjustment required. Lift arm shaft is worn. Replace the shaft. 3-point hitch is out of adjustment. The 3-point hitch must be adjusted.

Hitch lowering or lifting is jerky: Hydraulic oil is contaminated. Fill up with fresh hydraulic oil. Hydraulic pump is defective. Repair or replace hydraulic oil pump. Air in the hydraulic system. Air bleeding. Hydraulic spool valve block is defective. Repair or change hydraulic valve. Hydraulic cylinder is defective. Repair or change hydraulic cylinder.
