New Holland TS90 Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts up hard or doesn't start: Fuel filter element is dirty. Clean the filter or install new filter element. Air in the fuel lines. Bleed the fuel lines. Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged. Check and replace nozzles if required. Damaged fuel injection pump. Change pump or rebuild it.

Engine shuts off suddenly while running: Improper fuel injection timing. Check the fuel injection pump timing adjustment. Dirty fuel filter. Clean the filter or install new filter element. Low coolant temperature. Normalize the temperature by warming up the engine.

Diesel starts and stalls immediately: Fuel filter element is dirty. Change the filter element. Fuel injection pump is not operating properly. Rebuild or change fuel pump. Clogged air cleaner. Clean or change the filter.

Engine overheating: Defective radiator cap or clogged radiator fins. Clean radiator or change cap. Coolant level is low. Fill radiator to proper level and check components for faults. Damaged or worn fan belt. Fan belt must be replaced. Insufficient engine oil. Need to add engine oil.

Engine power loss: Faulty fuel injection nozzles. Service or change injection nozzles. Clogged fuel hoses or lines. Clean fuel system hoses and lines. Clogged air filter. Service air cleaner. Blown cylinder head gasket. Change cylinder head gasket.

Abnormal engine knocking or noise: Engine has not warmed up to the recommended temperature. Warm up to required temperature. Insufficient engine oil. Add oil to the engine crankcase. Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted. Adjust the pump as required. Piston wear or scoring. Pistons replacement required. Connecting rod is worn or misaligned. Align or replace connecting rod.

Transmission makes noise: Defective gears or improper backlash. Adjust backlash correctly or replace the gears. Worn or bent shift forks. Shift forks need to be changed. Worn or damaged shaft splines. Change defective shaft. Transmission fluid level is low. Add fluid to the transmission housing. Bearings are cracked or worn. Faulty bearings should be changed. Transmission fluid contamination. Change the fluid.

Gear shift is hard: Stuck or worn gear shift linkage. Install new shift linkage. Worn or unadjusted clutch. Change or adjust clutch. Worn or damaged gear shift forks. Install new shift forks. Gear shifting mechanism is defective. Defective parts must be replaced.

Excessive hydraulic system heat: Hydraulic oil type is wrong. Correct type of oil must be used. Dirty hydraulic fluid. The fluid must be changed. There is air in the hydraulic system. Bleed hydraulic system. Main relief valve failure. Change relief valve.

Low hydraulic fluid pressure: Low hydraulic oil level. Need to add oil. Hydraulic fluid filter element is clogged. Service the hydraulic filter or change if required. Leaking hydraulic lines. Steering is difficult: Air in steering hydraulic system. Bleed the steering system. Dirty steering filter. Service steering filter. Lack of steering oil. Fill the steering system with oil. Hydrostatic steering unit has damage or wear. Check and replace as required. Steering pump is worn. Check the steering pump and replace if necessary. Pump flow control valve is worn or stuck. Battery will not charge: Electrical wire connections are loose or corroded. Tighten or clean electrical wiring connections. Faulty battery terminal connectors. Terminal connectors should be replaced. Defective battery. Change the battery. Belt is loose or defective. Adjust belt tension or change the belt.

Starter cranks slowly: Battery voltage is low. Battery needs to be recharged. Battery drains quickly. Service charging system or replace battery. Corroded battery terminals or disconnected wires. Check wiring connections and replace or clean terminals.
