Workmaster 50 Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts up hard or will not start: Fuel filter element is dirty. Clean or replace the filter. Air in the fuel system. Air bleeding. Clogged or defective injection nozzles. Service or change injection nozzles. Fuel injection pump damage. Install a new pump or rebuild.

Engine stops suddenly during operation: Wrong setting of fuel injection pump timing. Adjust the pump as required. Fuel filter plugged. Service the filter. Engine has not warmed up to the recommended temperature. Warm up the engine.

Diesel starts and stops: Fuel filter plugged. Install new filter element. Fuel injection pump malfunctioning. Repair or replace injection pump. Air cleaner is dirty. Clean or change.

Engine is overheated: Clogged radiator fins or leaking radiator cap. Change cap or clean radiator. Insufficient coolant. Add coolant and check the components of cooling system. Excessive wear of the fan belt. If necessary, replace the belt. Low engine oil level. Checking oil level and add if necessary.

Engine loses power: Dirty or damaged injection nozzles. Install a new kit of correctly balanced nozzles. Dirty fuel lines or hoses. Clean fuel system hoses and lines. Air filter plugged. Clean or change the filter. Cylinder head gasket is blown. Replace cylinder head gasket.

Abnormal engine knocking or noise: Engine has not warmed up to the recommended temperature. Warm up the engine. Low engine oil level. Checking oil level and add if necessary. Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted. Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment. Piston wear or scoring. Replace the pistons. Connecting rod is defective or misaligned. Hydraulics overheating: Hydraulic oil type is improper. Fill up with the proper type of oil. Hydraulic oil is contaminated. Fill up with fresh hydraulic oil. Air in hydraulic pipes. Bleed hydraulic pipes. Faulty main relief valve. Replace relief valve.

Battery won’t charge: Electrical cable connections are loose or corroded. Tighten or service connections. Defective electrical terminal connectors. Terminal connectors need to be changed. Battery faulty cell. Replace the battery. Worn or loose belt. Adjust belt tension or replace belt.

Starter motor cranks slow: Low battery capacity. Recharge the battery. Battery discharges quickly. Battery needs to be serviced or replaced. Disconnected cables or faulty battery terminals. Connect wiring correctly or install new terminals.
