Gehl R105 Skid Steer Troubleshooting

The Gehl R105 skid steer loader is powered by 100.2 cu.in (1.6L) Yanmar 3TNV88C three-cylinder direct injection liquid-cooled diesel engine with a rated power of 34.7 hp (25.5 kW) at 2800 rpm. The Gehl R105 is equipped with a single-speed hydrostatic transmission, radial-lift loader boom, 80H roller chains, and 27-8.5x15 tires. The hydraulic system has a pump with fluid flow rate of 14.5 gpm (55 lpm). The hydraulic pressure is 2750 psi (190 bar). The skid steer loader has a rated operating capacity of 1050 lbs (475 kg) and tipping load of 2100 lbs (950 kg). The lift height is 107.5 inches (2730 mm) to hinge pin, and dump height is 82 inches (2085 mm).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine hard to start or doesn't start

Air in the fuel system - Air bleeding.
Fuel filter element clogging - Change the filter element.
Defective or clogged injection nozzle - Inspect nozzles and replace if necessary.
Dirt or water in fuel system - Drain water or flush dirt from the system.
Valve out of adjustment - Adjustment procedure required.
Fuel injection pump failure - Change or repair the pump.

Engine starts and then shuts off

Air filter is plugged - Clean or change.
Fuel filter plugged - Install new filter element.
Fuel injection pump has loose connections - Tighten the connections.
Fuel injectors are dirty or defective - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Fuel injection pump is not working correctly - Install a new pump or rebuild.

Engine stalls while running

Low coolant temperature - Warm up the engine.
Fuel filter element is clogged - Change the filter element.
Air in fuel tank - Bleed fuel tank.
Dirty or faulty injection nozzles - Test injection nozzles and change if necessary.
Incorrect adjustment of fuel injection pump timing - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.

Engine stalls while idling

Low idle speed adjustment is incorrect - Adjustment required.
Fuel injection pump is broken - Rebuild or replace pump.
Damaged or clogged injectors - Replace or clean fuel injectors.
Valve out of adjustment - Adjust valve clearance.

Engine power is too low

Air filter is clogged - Replace or clean air filter element.
Fuel injection nozzles fault - Check and replace nozzles if required.
Fuel injection pressure is incorrect - Check the fuel injection pressure and adjust if necessary.
Valve clearance is wrong - Adjust to proper valve clearance.
Low idle speed setting is incorrect - Correct the settings.

Engine is overheated

Machine is not moving forward or backward

Relief valve is defective - Service or change relief valve.
Dirty suction line or hydraulic filter - Service suction line or replace hydraulic filter.
Foot or hand controls are defective - Inspect and repair if necessary.
Defective drive pump or motor - Inspect and change as required.

Loss of power

Hydraulic oil filter is clogged - Check, clean, or replace as required.
Opened or defective relief valve - Replace or close relief valve.
Transmission parts are damaged or faulty - Check and change faulty components.
Input drive shaft is defective - Service or change faulty drive shaft.
There is air in the hydraulic system - Air bleeding is required.

Drive system keeps overheating

Low hydraulic oil level - Need to add oil.
Hydraulic fluid filter is plugged - Check, clean, or replace as required.
Relief valve is defective - Repair or change.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump failure - Check and repair if required.
Clogged hydraulic oil cooler - Cooling fins should be cleaned.

Drive system makes excessive noise

Improper oil viscosity - Use proper oil viscosity.
There is air in the hydraulic system - Bleed hydraulic system.
Worn hydraulic motor or drive pump - Inspect and replace as necessary.
Mechanical parts of drive system are worn or damaged - Check the components for defect or damage and change if necessary.

Hydraulic system has overheating

Hydraulic pressure is incorrect - Adjust pressure as required.
Main relief valve malfunction or improper adjustment - Replace or set up the relief valve.
Hydraulic oil is contaminated - The oil must be changed.

Electrical Troubleshooting

Battery cannot be charged

Wiring connections are corroded or loose - Tighten or clean connections.
Defective battery terminal clamps - Terminal clamps should be changed.
Battery failing - Change the battery.
Loose or worn belt - Belt needs to be adjusted or changed.

Starter turns slowly

Low battery power - Low battery charging, charge as required.
Battery runs out quickly - Service charging system or change battery.
Faulty battery terminals or disconnected cables - Connect cables correctly or replace terminals.

Starter is not cranking

Battery is discharged or defective - Battery needs to be recharged or replaced.
Disconnected or incorrectly connected wires - Inspect battery wires and connect correctly.
Battery power is low - Battery needs to be recharged.
Defective starter motor - Starter should be replaced.
