New Holland C227 Track Loader Troubleshooting

The New Holland C227 compact track loader is powered by 207 cu.in (3.4L) FPT F5H FL463A four-cylinder direct injection turbocharged aftercooled diesel engine with a rated power of 68 hp (51 kW) at 2500 rpm. The New Holland C227 is equipped with a two-speed hydrostatic transmission and steel-embedded rubber tracks. The hydraulic system has a pump with fluid flow rate of 22.5 gpm (85.2 lpm). The hydraulic pressure is 3050 psi (210 bar). The compact track loader has a rated operating capacity of 1890 lbs (860 kg) and tipping load of 5400 lbs (2450 kg). The boom lifting force is 6080 lbs (2765 kg), and bucket breakout force is 7270 lbs (3305 kg).

Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts up hard or doesn't start

Air in the fuel lines - Bleed the fuel lines.
Dirty fuel filter - Service the filter.
Fuel injection nozzles are faulty or clogged - If necessary, replace with a new nozzle.
Water or dirt in fuel system - Drain, flush, and service the system.

Engine shuts off suddenly while running

Engine not warmed up - Warm up the engine.
Fuel filter element is dirty - Install new filter element.

Fuel injection nozzles are clogged or faulty - Install a new kit of correctly balanced nozzles.
Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted - Use the correct fuel injection pump timing adjustment.

Engine stalls while idling

Incorrect low idle setting - Need to adjust idle speed.
Fuel injection pump failure - Replace or rebuild injection pump.
Fuel injector fault - Inspect fuel injectors and change as required.

Lack of engine power

Air cleaner is clogged - Service or replace air cleaner.

Too low idle RPM - Adjust low idle speed.

Engine overheating

Oil pressure too low

Suction line or hydraulic filter is dirty - Service suction line or replace hydraulic filter.
Worn or defective hand or foot controls - Inspect and repair if necessary.
Worn drive motor or pump - Check and repair if required.

Machine is not driving straight or driving is jerky

Jammed or damaged track mechanism - Repair or remove jamming.
Tracks are sagging or malfunctioning - Adjust track sag with tensioning or replace tracks.
Foreign objects, debris, or dirt stuck in track frame - Clean undercarriage track frame.

Power is too low

Clogged hydraulic oil filter - Replace hydraulic filter.
Opened or worn relief valve - Replace or close relief valve.
Transmission parts are defective or worn - Inspect and replace faulty parts.
Input drive shaft malfunction - Replace or service the drive shaft.
Air leaks in hydraulic system - Need to bleed air.

Overheated drive system

Low hydraulic oil level - Need to add oil.
Hydraulic fluid filter is plugged - Replace hydraulic filter.
Defective or worn relief valve - Rebuild or install a new relief valve.
Hydraulic motor or drive pump failure - Replace or repair faulty component.
Oil cooler is clogged - Cooling fins should be cleaned.

Dead cell in battery - Use a new battery.
Worn or loose belt - Adjust belt tension or replace belt.

Starter cranks slow

Battery capacity is low - Battery needs to be recharged.
Battery does not hold charge - Service or replace the battery.
Disconnected battery cables or bad terminals - Connect cables correctly or replace terminals.

Starter motor is not working

Battery is drained or defective - Charge or replace the battery.
Wiring harness is disconnected or improperly connected - Check wiring harness and connect as required.
Battery capacity is low - Recharge the battery.
Faulty starter motor - Replace or repair starter.
