Ford 1100 Engine Troubleshooting

Engine starts hard or won't start: Fuel filter plugged. Install new filter element. Air in the fuel pipes. Bleed the fuel pipes. Fuel injection nozzles are damaged or dirty. If necessary, replace with a new nozzle. Fuel injection pump is not operating properly. Rebuild or change fuel pump.

Engine stops running suddenly: Fuel injection pump timing is wrong. Adjust fuel injection pump as required. Fuel filter plugging. Change filter element. Coolant temperature is low. Warm up the engine.

Engine starts and stalls suddenly: Dirty fuel filter. Clean or replace the filter. Fuel injection pump is broken. Repair or replace injection pump. Clogged air filter element. Air filter maintenance required.

Engine overheated: Defective radiator cap or clogged radiator fins. Clean radiator or install new cap. Low coolant level. Fill the cooling system and check components for leaks or other faults. Fan belt slipping or worn. Replace the fan belt. Lack of engine oil. Check and refill engine oil.

Transmission noise: Gears are defective or backlash is improper. Change worn gears or adjust backlash correctly. Shift forks are bent or worn out. Change the shift forks. Shaft splines are damaged or worn. Change the shaft. Lack of transmission fluid. Check and refill the transmission fluid. Bearings are broken or worn. Install new bearings. Transmission fluid contamination. Change the fluid.

Difficult to shift gears: Gear shift linkage is corroded or worn. Shift linkage need to be replaced. Malfunction or incorrect clutch adjustment. Adjust clutch or replace if required. Damaged or worn gear shift forks. Change the shift forks. Gearshift mechanism is damaged. Replace or repair the mechanism.

Transmission oil pressure is low: Low fluid level. Add fluid to the transmission housing. Transmission oil filter is dirty (if equipped). Clean or replace the transmission filter. Relief valve malfunction. Change relief valve.

Transmission oil leaks: Worn seals or gaskets. Install new gaskets or seal. Too much oil in transmission. Drain the excess oil.

Ford 1100 Hydraulic System Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system overheats: Incorrect type of hydraulic oil. The correct type of oil must be used. Contaminated hydraulic fluid. Change hydraulic fluid. There is air in the hydraulic system. Bleed hydraulic system. Faulty main relief valve. Relief valve need to be replaced.

Low hydraulic fluid pressure: Low hydraulic fluid level. Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level. Dirty hydraulic fluid filter. Clean or change hydraulic filter. Leaking hydraulic lines. Inspect hydraulic system for leaks and repair it. Hydraulic spool valve is not set properly. Set the spool valve properly. Hydraulic pump failure. Repair or replace hydraulic oil pump. 3-point hitch fails to lift or lifts slowly: Defective hydraulic pump. Repair or replace hydraulic oil pump. Main relief valve malfunction. Relief valve must be changed. Defective hydraulic control valve. Change or repair hydraulic valve. Hydraulic cylinder is broken. Change or repair hydraulic cylinder. Insufficient hydraulic fluid. Fill up the hydraulic fluid. Dirty hydraulic fluid filter element. Replace filter element or clean if required. Hitch is under excessive load. Reduce hitch load.

3-point hitch does not lower or lowers very slowly: Hydraulic cylinder is broken. Replace or repair hydraulic cylinder. Hydraulic control valve block is out of adjustment. Control valve needs to be adjusted. Worn lift arm shaft. Install a new shaft. The three-point hitch is not adjusted. Adjust 3-point hitch as required.

Jerky lifting or lowering of three-point hitch: Contaminated hydraulic fluid. Change hydraulic fluid. Hydraulic pump is faulty. Change or repair hydraulic oil pump. Air in the hydraulic system. Ford 1100 Steering Troubleshooting

Excessive free play of steering wheel: Worn steering column bearing or shaft. Replace faulty parts. Loose or worn steering linkage parts. Repair or replace steering linkage. Steering gear box bearings are worn. Bearings need to be replaced. Change knuckles or hub bearings.

Steering wheel turns hard: Steering column shaft or steering knuckle sticking. Check steering knuckle and column, change damaged components. Steering gear box components are worn. Repair steering gearbox. Failing drag link or tie rod. Change or rebuild. Lack of lubricant in steering box. Steering gearbox must be lubricated. Not adjusted toe-in alignment. Tires are not properly inflated. Inflate tires as required.

Tractor is pulling to right or left: Loose or worn steering linkage components. Repair or replace steering linkage. Defective steering knuckle bushing. Change knuckle bushing. Tire pressure is uneven. Adjust the tire pressure. Incorrect toe-in. Check toe-in and correct.

Ford 1100 Electrical System Troubleshooting

Battery will not charge: Wiring connections are corroded or loose. Clean or tighten wiring connections. Faulty electrical terminal connectors. Change terminal connectors. Defective battery. Battery replacement required. Belt is worn or loose. Replace belt or adjust belt tension.

Starter turning slow: Battery voltage is low. Battery is drained, recharge it. Battery does not hold charge. Battery needs service or replacement. Battery terminals are corroded or wires are disconnected. Check wire connections and change or service terminals.
