Ford 1720 Engine Troubleshooting

Engine difficult to start or won't start: Dirty fuel filter. Replace filter element. Air in the fuel pipes. Bleed the fuel pipes. Fuel injection nozzles are damaged or dirty. Check injection nozzles and replace if required. Damaged fuel injection pump. Rebuild or change fuel pump.

Engine stalls during operation: Timing of fuel injection pump is incorrect. Set it up as required. Clogged fuel filter. Change filter element. Engine is not fully warmed up. Warm up to required temperature.

Engine starts but stalls immediately: Clogged fuel filter. Install new filter element. Fuel injection pump damage. Replacement or repair required. Air cleaner is dirty. Replace air filter element.

Engine overheats: Damaged radiator cap or dirty radiator core. Clean radiator or change cap. Not enough coolant. Top up coolant fluid and check system for leaks. Loose or damaged fan belt. Belt replacement is recommended. Lack of engine oil. Check oil level and add oil as required.

Transmission noises: Improper backlash or worn gears. Install new gears and adjust backlash properly. Worn or bent gear shift forks. Shift forks need to be changed. Shaft splines are stuck or worn out. Change defective shaft. Lack of transmission oil supply. Add oil to the transmission housing. Worn or cracked bearings. Bearings need to be changed. Transmission oil contamination. Change the oil.

Transmission oil leaks: Damaged gaskets or seals. Change defective seal or gaskets. Too much oil in transmission. Drain the excess oil.

Ford 1720 Hydraulic System Troubleshooting

Hydraulic system is overheated: Hydraulic fluid type is wrong. Use correct type of hydraulic fluid. Dirty hydraulic oil. The oil must be changed. Air in the hydraulic system. Air bleeding. Damaged main relief valve. Relief valve must be changed.

Low hydraulic oil pressure: Hydraulic fluid level low. Checking hydraulic fluid level and add if necessary. Dirty hydraulic fluid filter. Replace hydraulic filter element or service if necessary. Leaking hydraulic lines. Inspect the system for leaks and fix it. Hydraulic control valve block is out of adjustment. Control valve needs to be adjusted. Damaged hydraulic pump. Ford 1720 Electrical System Troubleshooting

Battery cannot be charged: Electrical cable connections are loose or corroded. Service or tighten connections. Battery terminal clamps are defective. Terminal clamps should be changed. Battery is defective. Install a new battery. Worn or loose belt. Need to adjust belt tension or replace belt.
