Attaching 447 Backhoe To Tractor
- Fully lower tractor rockshaft arms. Align rockshaft pins with hooks on
447 backhoe, and back tractor into position. Check to be sure backhoe
hydraulic hoses are clear of backhoe hooks and hardware. Slowly lift
rockshaft arms, making sure pins engage into hooks on backhoe. Check to
be sure both lower pins on backhoe engage both hooks on tractor RSA
mounting plates. Fully raise rockshaft arms so stop is against edge of
RSA mounting plates. Install L-pins in backhoe and RSA mounting plates.
If backhoe and RSA mounting
plates do not align, and L-pins do not slide in and out easily, lower
backhoe to ground and adjust movable latch plates. Install hitch pins in
L-pins. Park tractor safely. Lower the rockshaft to transfer weight of
backhoe from rockshaft arms to L-pins.
Routing Hydraulic Hoses
- Position drain pan and remove male coupler from 90° elbow on backhoe
pressure hose. Route backhoe pressure hose up through backhoe right
side. Install male coupler back on 90° elbow. Route backhoe return hose
up through backhoe left side. It may be necessary to remove the female
coupler to allow the hose to fit.
Connecting Hydraulic Hoses
- Park JD 4300 tractor safely with L-pins installed in 447 backhoe.
Cycle the rockshaft control lever to relieve all pressure on rockshaft.
Disconnect Power Beyond hose from female coupler. Install dust cap on
hose, and lay hose aside on backhoe frame. Connect backhoe pressure hose
with male coupler to female coupler. Connect backhoe return hose with
female coupler to fitting.

59" Snow blower Gear Assembly
- Install snap rings. Press bearing cups into case until they bottom out
against snap rings. Press oil seals into case until they are flush with
flat surface of case. Place key in input shaft. Align slot in worm gear
with key and tap into place with soft faced hammer. Install retaining
ring. Press bearing on plain end of input shaft until bottomed on
retaining ring. Clean burrs off shaft and install bearing. Put bearing
cup over bearing (plain end). Press bearing cup into case until press
plate bottoms against input shaft. Remove press plate and use thin wall
pipe with large enough diameter to clear bearing. Press bearing cup
until below snap ring groove. Install snap ring with snap ring pliers.
Turn input shaft to seat bearings in cups. Push and pull input shaft to
check for excessive end play. Use a dial indicator to measure end play.
Maximum end play is 0.076 mm (0.003 in.).
If end play exceeds this tolerance remove snap ring and install shim
under snap rings. Press cap in case until flush with surface. Put
bearing cup in case. Install retaining ring in groove on output shaft.
Put key in shaft and slide gear over key. Grease an oil seal and insert
shaft through case and oil seal. Turn input shaft and set gear teeth in
worm gear. Press bearing cup into cover far enough to install retaining
ring. Install snap ring. Press new seal into cover until flush with end
Install bearing on shaft. Install new gasket. Slip cover over shaft.
Secure cover with four cap screws. Tighten to 20-24 Nm (180-216 lb-in.).
Add 0.4 L (13.5 oz) of GL-5 Gear Oil-SAE 80W-90. Apply loctite 592 pipe
sealant with teflon to pipe plugs. Tighten pipe plugs to 18 Nm (160
lb-in.).

Drive Belt Replacement
- Remove drive shaft and disconnect lift arms from 72" mower deck. Open
the latches and remove the belt shields. Remove belt covers and loosen
idler bumper.Loosen belt and remove stop. Use a pry bar to move lever
and release belt tension on sheave. Remove belt from sheave. Slowly
release lever. Remove sheave and gear case assembly. Replace belt.
Install gear case assembly. Tighten cap screws to 55 Nm (40 lb-ft).
Install belt and spindle sheave. Tighten spindle sheave cap screws to
164 Nm (120 lb-ft). Adjust bumper to just touch idler lever.

261 Mower Spindle Removal
- Open the latches and remove the belt shields. Loosen belt and remove
stop. Remove belt from sheaves. Remove lock nuts and washers. Remove
lock nuts and cap screws. Remove gear box assembly with PTO shaft. Put a
block of wood between 261 mower blade and deck. Remove cap screw,
washer, blade, and anti-wrap cup (if equipped).Remove nuts and carriage
bolts. Remove ring. Remove spindle assembly from mower deck.
