Use seasonal viscosity grade oil.

Drain Water and Sediment from Fuel Filter

Place suitable sized container under fuel drain locations (filters, water separator, and tanks). Dispose of waste properly. Raise hood and open fuel filter/water separator drain and drain of glass bowl (if equipped) to bleed accumulated moisture and sediment from filter. Tighten drain when clear fuel runs from drain.

Run engine for minimum of 20 seconds and again check fuel filter drain and drain of glass bowl (if equipped) for moisture and sediments. If moisture or sediments are found, drain fuel tank. Open fuel tank drain plug to bleed accumulated moisture and sediment from fuel tank. Apply TEFLON or equivalent to threads of drain plug. Tighten plug when clear fuel runs from fuel tank drain plug. Lower hood.

Cleaning Air Filter Dust Unloading Valve

Raise hood. Clean out dust unloading valve by squeezing the end to open and remove any excessive buildup of dust and dirt. Replace if damaged. Lower hood.

Place JD 5085M, 5095M, 5105M tractor in park and shut-off engine. Remove key. Let engine to cool. Raise hood. Open drain plug and drain fuel. Lift up and rotate retaining ring counterclockwise. Remove ring with filter. Remove water separator bowl from pre-filter. Clean separator. Dry with compressed air.

Install water separator bowl on new filter. Install new filter assembly. Tighten retaining ring hand-tight. Bleed the fuel system. Start engine and keep running for some time. Inspect drain plug and filter for leaks. Lower hood. Two fuel filters are different, do not interchange. Replace one after another to avoid interchange.

Inspect Fan Belt Tensioner

A belt tension gauge will not give an accurate measurement of the belt tension. Measure tensioner spring tension using a torque wrench. Remove fan guard. Remove fan belt. Put a mark on swing arm of tensioner. Measure 21 mm (0.83 in.) from and put a mark on tensioner mounting base.

Rotate the swing arm using a torque wrench until marks are aligned. Pull tensioner with torque wrench away from engine. Record torque wrench measurement and compare with specification. If recorded measurement is below specifications, replace tensioner assembly. Belt Tensioner Torque - 18-22 Nm (159-195 lb-in.). Install fan belt. Install fan guard.

John Deere 5085M, 5095M, 5105M - Replace Fan Belt

Fan drive belt is equipped with an automatic tensioner which does not require adjustment. JD 5085M, 5095M, 5105M Cab Tractors: Don't remove belt guard fastened to air conditioner compressor. Compressor will be loose if cap screws are removed.

Remove cap screws from right fan guard. Remove cap screws from left side of right fan guard. Remove two cap screws from right wire-formed fan guard. Remove cap screw from left fan guard. Remove cap screws from right side of left fan guard. Remove cap screw from left wire-formed fan guard.

Remove Belt

Release tension on belt using a long-handle 1/2 in. drive breaker bar to pull tensioner away from engine. Remove belt from alternator pulley. Release tension on tensioner and remove breaker bar. Remove belt. Install new belt in reverse order of removal. Use breaker bar to push tensioner into position for belt installation. Install left and right fan guards in reverse order of removal.

John Deere 5085M, 5095M, 5105M - Service Engine Air Cleaner

Remove latch, cover and pull out primary air cleaner element. If primary element does not pull out with ease, move side-to-side to remove safely. Do not remove secondary element of air cleaner unless you are replacing it. When primary air cleaner element must be serviced in the field, tap it on the palm of your hand as a temporary measure. The guide ring must not be damaged or deformed.

If tapping primary air cleaner element does not remove dust, blow out dust with low pressure compressed air. Do NOT exceed 600 kPa (6 bar/90 psi). Blow air from engine end of element (guide ring) to outside air end. Do NOT insert nozzle into element material. Replace both filter elements (primary and secondary) after the primary filter has been cleaned five times. Clean out and inspect canister interior before installing new elements.

Before installation, review decals on canister and primary cleaner. Replace elements if core material or seals (both ends) are damaged, or if air cleaner restriction indicator remains illuminated after elements have been cleaned. Install elements as necessary and latch cover. Lower hood. If frequency of restriction increases, replace air cleaner elements. Service air cleaner more often in extremely dusty condition.
