Massey Ferguson 178 Maintenance Intervals

Every 10 Hours or Daily

Engine oil level checking procedure. If the oil level is too low, fill in new oil.

Check the transmission oil level. When transmission oil is low, add recommended volume.

Engine air filter checking. Replace with a new one if necessary.

Check the coolant level in cooling system. If the coolant level is too low, fill the system.

Check engine idling, steering system, service brakes and hand brake. If damages are found, repair it.

Every 50 Hours

Checking the air pressure of tyres. Inflate if required.

Check battery condition. Charge or replace.

Checking the oil in front axle. Add if required.

Check the hydraulic oil level in system. If necessary, add hydraulic oil to the system.

Lubricate the front axle wheel bearings.

Inspect tractor for loose nuts and bolts.

Every 100 hours

Replace engine oil. Recommended oil type: 10W-30, 15W-40, 20W-40. How much to fill: Engine Oil Capacity - 8.5 qt (8 L). After completing the filling procedure, check motor oil level.

Changing oil filter element. Oil filter part number: 1882916V91 (Perkins) and 1022145M91 (Continental Gas and LP). Flush the filter housing before the filter element replacement procedure. Check the oil level after installing a new filter. Add oil if necessary.

Clean radiator fins from dirt.

Check fan/alternator belt for wear. Replace if necessary.

Check wheel bolt torque.

Every 500 Hours

Replace engine fuel filter. Engine fuel filter part number: 836218V92 (Diesel), 521251M92 (Gas). Check the correct operation of diesel fuel pump.

Check the coolant in cooling system. Add coolant if necessary.

Check engine idle speed. Adjust if necessary.

Check and tighten all hoses and clamps.

Change front axle fluid.

Adjust parking and service brakes.

Every 750 Hours

Transmission/hydraulic oil change. Transmission/hydraulic fluid type - Permatran 821XL, SAE 10W-30. Transmission fluid capacity: 8 gal (30.3 L). After installing a new filter, check that the transmission/hydraulic fluid level is correct.

Replace hydraulic filter element. Part number of hydraulic filter element - 1911855V4 for Oil Cooler Lines, 521451M1/1871933M91 for Lift Pump. After installing a new filter, check the hydraulic/transmission fluid level. Add hydraulic fluid if it is low.

Change steering oil and filter element. Filter element part number - 1052262M91 (Continental Gas and LP) and 1019235M91 (Perkins).Steering Oil Type - Permatran. Steering Oil Capacity - 1.8 qt (1.7 L).

Check and service engine primary and secondary air filter elements. Primary air filter part number: 1026131V92. Secondary air filter part number: 1094269M91.

Change engine oil and filter. Service lubricating system components.

Install a new primary/secondary air filter elements.

Install a new steering filter and pour in fresh steering fluid.

Change hydraulic filter and add fresh oil to hydraulic/transmission system.

Drain water from fuel tank, then replace the fuel filter.

Clean radiator and oil cooler fins.

Flush the cooling system and add new coolant. Cooling System Capacity - 13.5 qt (12.8 L).

Check all clamps hoses and hoses.

Check and service the battery.

Check and adjust valve clearance.

Check and adjust injector pump or carburetor.
