Massey Ferguson 231 Service Intervals

Every Ten Hours or Daily

Engine oil level checking procedure. If the oil level is too low, add new oil.

Check transmission/hydraulic fluid level. If the transmission/hydraulic fluid is too low, add it.

Checking air filter element. Replace if necessary.

Check the coolant level. If the coolant level is low, add it.

Check engine idle speed, steering, service brakes and hand brake. If you found a problem, fix it.

Every 50 Hours

Check and inflate tires as required.

Check the battery. Clean battery terminals if necessary.

Checking the oil in front axle. Top up as necessary.

Check hydraulic system oil level. Add if required.

Lubricate rear and front axle hub bearings.

Tighten wheel bolts and nuts.

Every 250 hours

Engine oil change. Recommended oil type: SAE 10W-30, 15W-40, 20W-40. How much is needed: Engine Oil Capacity - 7.2 qt (6.8 L). When the procedure is complete, check the engine oil level.

Replacing engine oil filter. Filter part number - 1447082M2. Flush the filter housing before the filter element replacement procedure. After replacing the filter, check the oil level. Add oil if required.

Change engine air filter element. Engine air filter part number: 1886670M1.

Clean radiator surface from dirt.

Inspect the alternator/fan belt and adjust the belt tension if necessary.

Check wheel bolt torque.

Every 500 Hours

Replace engine fuel filter. Engine fuel filter part number: 836218V92. Check the correct operation of injection pump.

Replace steering filter. Steering filter element part number: 1052097V1. After replacing the filter, check the steering fluid level. If after checking the steering fluid level is low, add it. Steering Oil Capacity - 0.5 qt (0.48 L).

Inspect and tighten all hoses and clamps.

Front axle oil change. Front Axle Oil Type - Permatran.

Every 1000 Hours

Transmission/hydraulic oil change. Recommended transmission/hydraulic fluid type - Permatran 821XL, SAE 10W-30. How much to add: Transmission/Hydraulic Fluid Capacity - 8.5 gal (32 L). After completing the filling procedure, check transmission oil level.

Replace hydraulic filter. Part number of hydraulic filter element - 1687042V91. After replacing the filter element, check the hydraulic fluid level. Add oil if required.

Check cooling system for leaks. Add coolant if necessary.

Check engine idle speeds. Adjust if necessary.

Adjust parking and service brakes.

Drain, flush and refill cooling system. Cooling System Capacity - 10.8 qt (10.2 L).

Inspect all clamps hoses and hoses.

Check level of battery electrolyte.

Check engine valve clearance.

Check and adjust fuel injectors.
