Massey Ferguson 243 Maintenance Intervals

Every Ten Hours or Daily

Engine oil level checking. If after checking the engine oil level is low, top it up.

Transmission/hydraulic oil level checking. If the transmission/hydraulic fluid is too low, add it.

Check engine air filters. Replace if necessary.

Check the coolant level in cooling system. If the coolant level is low, add it.

Check idle engine speed, steering, service brakes and parking brake. If you found a problem, fix it.

Every 50 Hours

Checking the air pressure of tyres. Inflate if required.

Check battery charge. Charge the battery if necessary.

Checking the oil in front axle. Top up as necessary.

Check hydraulic system fluid level. Fill as required.

Lubricate the front axle bearing assembly.

Check front and rear wheels. Tighten bolts and nuts as required.

Every 250 hours

Change engine oil. Engine oil type - SAE 15W-30. API service classification CD. How much is required: Engine Oil Capacity - 7.2 qt (6.8 L). After installing a new filter, check that the engine oil level is correct.

Change engine oil filter. Oil filter part number: 4223058M1. When change the filter, cleaning the housing is required. After installation, checking the oil level is recommended. Add oil if required.

Engine air filter elements checking. Replace as required. Engine primary air filter part number: 3774831M1. Engine secondary air filter part number: 3374832M1.

Clean the radiator with a brush if the fins are dirty.

Check alternator/fan belt wear. Replace worn belt.

Check wheel bolt torque.

Every 500 Hours

Steering oil filter replacement. Steering filter part number: 3904213M91. After replacing the filter, check the steering fluid level. Add oil if required. Steering Oil Capacity - 0.74 qt (0.70 L).

Replace fuel filter. Fuel filter part number - 836218V92. Check the operation of injection pump.

Check radiator coolant. Top up if required.

Change front axle fluid. Front Axle Oil Type - Permatran.

Check brake adjustment.

Every 1000 Hours

Changing hydraulic/transmission fluid. Recommended hydraulic/transmission fluid type - Permatran, SAE 15W-30. Transmission/Hydraulic Oil Capacity - 8.2 gal (31 L). When the procedure is complete, check the hydraulic/transmission oil level.

Changing hydraulic filter element. Hydraulic filter element part number - 1810694V92 / 3771122V92 (2WD). When the filter element is replaced, check the hydraulic/transmission fluid level. Add oil if necessary.

Check engine idle speeds. Adjust engine idle if necessary.

Inspect all fittings and hoses. Tighten if necessary.

Drain water from fuel tank, then change the fuel filter.

Clean oil cooler fins and radiator.

Flush the cooling system and refill with fresh coolant. Cooling System Capacity - 2.8 gal (10.7 L).

Check all hoses and clamps.

Check battery charge.

Check engine valve clearance.

Check and adjust injection pump.
