Engine overheats: Clogged radiator core or damaged radiator cap. Change cap or clean radiator. Not enough coolant. Refill to the correct level and inspect system for leaks. Fan belt is loose or defective. Change the fan belt. Engine oil insufficient. Checking oil level and add if necessary.

Low engine power: Clogged injection nozzle. Service or change injection nozzles. Fuel lines or hoses are dirty. Fuel hoses and lines must be clean. Clogged air filter. Clean or replace element. Blown cylinder head gasket. Gasket should be replaced.

Engine noises or knocks: Engine is cold. Warm up to required temperature. Engine oil level is low. Check oil level and add oil as required. Fuel injection pump timing is not adjusted. Set the fuel pump timing correctly. Pistons are worn or scored. Replace the pistons. Connecting rod is worn or misaligned. Align or replace connecting rod.

Engine stops when idling: Incorrectly adjusted low idle speed. Test and adjust. Improper valve clearance. Correct valve clearance needs to be set. Fuel injection pump is not operating properly. Replacement or repair required.

Oil pressure is insufficient: Engine oil insufficient. Fill up the engine oil. Oil pump is defective. Install a new pump. Oil filter is dirty. Clean or replace engine oil filter element.

John Deere 2010 Transmission Troubleshooting

Excessive transmission noise: Improper backlash or worn gears. Change worn gears or adjust backlash correctly. Worn or bent gear shift forks. Shift forks need to be replaced. Shaft splines are worn or stuck. Change defective shaft. Low oil level. Fill the transmission housing to proper oil level. Worn or damaged bearings. Bearings need to be changed. Transmission oil is dirty. Transmission oil change required.

Gears are hard to shift: Worn or rusty gear shift linkage. Shift linkage need to be replaced. Unadjusted or worn clutch. Adjust clutch or change if necessary. Worn or damaged gear shift forks. Install new shift forks. Gear shifting mechanism is defective. Defective parts must be replaced.

Low transmission oil pressure: Lack of transmission fluid. Need to add transmission fluid. Plugged transmission oil filter (if equipped). Service or change transmission oil filter. Relief valve is stuck. Replace the valve.

External fluid leaks: Damaged seals or gaskets. Gaskets or seal need to be replaced. High transmission oil level. Correct the oil level.

John Deere 2010 Hydraulics Troubleshooting

Hydraulics overheating: Improper type of hydraulic fluid. The correct type of fluid must be used. Hydraulic oil is contaminated. Fill up with fresh hydraulic oil. There is air in the hydraulic system. Bleed hydraulic system. Main relief valve malfunctioning. Relief valve need to be replaced.

Insufficient hydraulic fluid pressure: Low hydraulic fluid level. Fill up the hydraulic fluid. Dirty hydraulic fluid filter. Clean the hydraulic filter element or replace if necessary. Leaks in hydraulic pipes. Find leaks in the system and fix it. Not adjusted hydraulic control valve. Need to adjust. Faulty hydraulic pump. Install a new hydraulic oil pump. Hydraulic cylinder not working. Install a new hydraulic cylinder or repair it.

Three-point hitch cannot be lifted or lifting is too slow: Hydraulic pump malfunction. Replace or repair hydraulic fluid pump. Main relief valve failure. Relief valve must be changed. Defective hydraulic control valve block. Repair or change the valve. Broken hydraulic cylinder. Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder. Hydraulic fluid level low. Fill the system to proper hydraulic fluid level. Hydraulic oil filter is clogged. Clean the hydraulic filter or install new filter element. Excessive loading on the hitch. The load should be reduced.

3-point hitch does not lower or lowers very slowly: Broken hydraulic cylinder. Install a new hydraulic cylinder or repair it. Incorrect adjusted hydraulic spool valve. Adjust the spool valve correctly. Worn hitch rock shaft. Install a new shaft. Hitch is out of adjustment. The hitch must be adjusted.

Hitch drop or lift is jerky: Hydraulic oil contamination. Change the oil. Hydraulic pump is defective. Install a new hydraulic fluid pump. Air in the hydraulic system. Air bleeding. Defective hydraulic control valve block. Replace or repair the valve. Hydraulic cylinder is defective. Repair or install a new hydraulic cylinder.

John Deere 2010 Steering System Troubleshooting

Steering wheel free play is excessive: Steering column coupling or shaft is worn. Replace defective part. Damaged hydraulic steering pump. Install a new hydraulic steering pump. Loose or worn steering linkage components. Check and replace as required. Steering box parts are faulty. Replace defective parts of power steering box.

Hard Steering: Air lock in the steering system. Bleed the system of air. Steering filter clogging. Clean or replace filter element. Insufficient steering oil. Need to add steering oil. Steering box components are damaged. Defective parts of power steering gearbox must be replaced. Damaged hydraulic steering pump. Install a new hydraulic steering pump. Damaged or stuck steering pump control valve. Change or flush control valve. Incorrectly installed or worn steering column. Install the steering column correctly or replace it. Uneven tire pressure. Inflate the tires properly. Improper toe-in. Check toe-in and correct. Steering cylinder leakage. Damaged cylinder seals or worn piston rod.

Front wheels wander to right or left: Steering gearbox components are damaged. Change defective steering gear box components. Damaged steering cylinder. Repair or change steering cylinder. Improper toe-in. Adjust toe-in wheels. Steering linkage assembly is worn or loose. Check and replace as required. Improperly adjusted or worn front wheel bearings. Replace the bearings or adjust it properly. Front tires are worn unevenly. Install new tires.
