John Deere 4020 Maintenance Intervals

Every Ten Hours or Daily

Engine oil level checking procedure. If the oil level is too low, add new oil.

Check the transmission fluid level. If transmission oil is too low, fill in new oil.

Checking engine primary air filter. Clean if necessary.

Check the coolant level in cooling system. If the coolant level is low, top it up.

Check engine idling, steering unit, service brakes and parking brake. If malfunctions are found, repair it.

Every 50 Hours

Check tire inflation pressure. Add air to tires if necessary.

Check battery charge. Charge the battery if necessary.

Check front axle oil level. Top up as necessary.

Check the oil in hydraulic tank. If necessary, add hydraulic fluid to the system.

Lubricate the rear and front wheel bearings.

Inspect the front and rear wheels. Tighten bolts and nuts as required.

Every 250 hours

Engine oil change. Engine oil type - SAE 30 API classification MS, DM (Diesel) or SAE 20-20W API classification MS, DM (Gasoline). How much to change: for diesel - 11.4 L (3 gal), for gasoline - 7.6 L (8 qt). After completing the filling procedure, check motor oil level.

Engine oil filter replacement. Filter part number - AR26350. When changing the filter, clean the dirt inside the filter housing. When the filter is replaced, check the oil level. If after checking the oil level is low, add it.

Check and clean the engine primary air cleaner. Air filter part number - AT33363 (Diesel) / AR39798 (Gasoline).

Clean the radiator fins with a brush from dust.

Check fan/alternator belt tension. Adjust if necessary.

Check the torque of the wheel bolts.

Every 500 Hours

Transmission fluid change. Recommended fluid type: JD Special 303. John Deere 4020 transmission fluid capacity: 53 L (14 gal). After installing a new filter, check that the transmission fluid level is correct.

Replace transmission/hydraulic oil filter. Fluid filter part number - AR75603. Check the transmission/hydraulic fluid level after installing a new filter. Add fluid if required.

Change filter element in hydraulic system. Part number of hydraulic filter: R27173. After installing a new filter, check the hydraulic oil. If required, add it.

Change fuel filter. Fuel filter part number - AR50041 (Gasoline) and AR45098, AR44077 or AR50041 (Diesel). Check the efficiency of fuel injection pump (diesel) or carburetor (gasoline).

Check radiator coolant. Top up if coolant is low.

Check engine idle speeds. Adjust engine idle if necessary.

Check the tubes and hoses. Tighten as recommended.

Front axle oil change.

Check and adjust the brake system components.

Annually

Change filter and engine oil. Service lubricating system components.

Clean primary air cleaner.

Change transmission filter and oil.

Install a new hydraulic filter and pour in fresh fluid.

Replace the fuel filter by first drain water from fuel tank.

Clean radiator and oil cooler fins.

Flush the cooling system and add new coolant. Cooling system capacity: 23 L (6 gal).

Inspect all hoses and clamps.

Check level of battery electrolyte.

Check engine valve clearance.

Check and adjust fuel injectors (diesel) or carburetor (gasoline).
