John Deere 4230 Maintenance Intervals

Every 10 Hours or Daily

Check fuel filter. Fuel filter part number - AR50141 (gas) and AR50041 (diesel). Replace as required.

Check the engine oil level. If the oil level is too low, add new oil.

Check the transmission/hydraulic oil level. When transmission oil is low, fill in new oil.

Checking air filter. Change if required.

Check the coolant level. If the coolant level is low, top it up.

Check engine idle speed, steering unit, parking brake and service brakes. If you found a problem, fix it.

Every 50 Hours

Inspect all tires. Inflate tires if necessary.

Inspect the battery. Clean the terminals as required.

Checking the oil in front axle. Add if required.

Check oil level in the hydraulic tank. Add oil to hydraulic system if necessary.

Lubricate the front axle wheel bearings.

Check tightness of wheel screws and nuts.

Every 200 hours

Change engine oil. Recommended oil type: SAE 30 API service classification Torq-Gard or CD-SD. How much to pour: Oil System Capacity: 16 L (4.3 gal) for diesel engine and 11.4 L (3 gal) for gas engine. Add oil to the upper mark on the dipstick.

Oil filter changing. Oil filter part number: AR26350 (Gas) and AR43634 (Diesel). When installing a new filter, flush the filter housing from dirt. When installation is complete, check the oil level. Add oil if required.

Changing hydraulic/transmission fluid. Recommended oil - Hy-Gard or Special 303. Transmission Capacity: Powershift - 37.9 L (10 gal), Quad-Range/Syncro-Range - 41.6 L (11 gal). Check hydraulic/transmission oil level after changing.

Changing hydraulic/transmission oil filter. Fluid filter part number - AR75603. Sealing washer - R34733. After installation, checking the hydraulic/transmission oil level is recommended. Add fluid if necessary.

Check and clean the cab fresh air filter. Part number - R60846.

Check and service the cab recirculation air filter. Part number - RE12793.

Remove dirt from radiator fins with a brush.

Inspect the alternator/fan belt and if it is worn, change it.

Check the tightening torque of the wheel bolts.

Every 400 Hours

Inspect engine primary air filter element. Primary air filter part number - AR79941. Service as required. Change annually.

Inspect engine secondary air filter. Part number - AR79942. Change as required. Clean as required. Replace annually.

Check radiator coolant. If coolant is low, top up.

Check engine idle. Adjust engine idle if necessary.

Inspect all hoses and fittings. Tighten as recommended.

Change front axle fluid.

Check brake adjustment.

Install a new primary and secondary air filter elements.

Install a new transmission/hydraulic filter.

Replace transmission/hydraulic fluid.

Change hydraulic filter element. Clean filter every 1200 hours.

Replace the fuel filter by first drain water from fuel tank.

Clean oil cooler fins and radiator.

Flush the cooling system and add fresh coolant. Cooling System Capacity: with cab - 24.6 L (6.5 gal), without cab - 22.7 L (6 gal).

Inspect all hoses and clamps.

Check battery charging.

Check engine valve clearance.

Check and adjust injection pump.
