John Deere 4240 Service Intervals

Every 10 Hours or Daily

Check engine oil level. If the engine oil level is low, add fresh oil.

Transmission oil level checking. If transmission oil is too low, fill in new oil.

Check diesel fuel filter. Replace as required. Fuel filter element part number: AR50041. Check diesel fuel pump settings after replacement.

Engine air filter checking. Install a new filter element if necessary.

Check coolant level in radiator. If the coolant level is too low, add coolant in cooling system.

Check engine idling, steering unit, service brakes and hand brake. If malfunctions are found, repair it.

Every 50 Hours

Check tyre pressure. If the tyre pressure is low, inflate the tyres.

Check battery charge level and charge if necessary.

Checking the oil in front axle. Add oil if necessary.

Check the hydraulic fluid level in system. Add if required.

Lubricate the front axle bearing assembly.

Inspect wheels and tighten bolts and nuts if necessary.

Every 200 hours

Change engine oil. Recommended engine oil: Torq-Gard or SAE 30 with API classification CD, CC or SD. How much to fill: 15.1 L (4 gal). When the procedure is complete, check the engine oil level.

Replacing engine oil filter. Oil filter part number: AR43634 and DZ101880 with Reman Engine. When changing the filter, clean the dirt inside the filter housing. After installing a new filter, check the oil level. Add oil if it is low.

Replace transmission/hydraulic oil. Recommended transmission/hydraulic oil type: Hy-Gard. How much is required: Capacity for Power Shift transmission (8x4) - 41.6 L (11 gal), for Quad-Range transmission (16x6) capacity - 49.2 L (13 gal), for Synchro-Range transmission (12x4) capacity - 49.2 L (13 gal). When the procedure is complete, check the transmission/hydraulic fluid level.

Replace transmission/hydraulic fluid filter. Transmission oil filter part number: AR94510. After installation, checking the transmission/hydraulic fluid level is recommended. Add oil if it is low.

Check cab recirculation air filter. Part number: RE12793. Replace annually and as required.

Check cab fresh air filter. Part number: R65450. Change annually and if required.

Clean radiator fins if fins are dirty.

Inspect alternator/fan belt. Change if necessary.

Check the tightening torque of the wheel bolts.

Every 600 Hours

Inspect engine primary air filter. Part number: AR79941. Clean as required. Replace annually and as required.

Inspect engine secondary air filter. Part number: AR79942. Clean as required. Replace annually and as required.

Check the coolant in cooling system. Top up if required.

Check engine idle speeds. Adjust engine idle as required.

Inspect all hoses and fittings. Tighten as recommended.

Front axle lubricant change.

Check and adjust the parking and service brakes.

Change primary and secondary air cleaner elements.

Clean hydraulic filter. Hydraulics filter element part number - R27173. Clean filter every 1200 hours.

Change hydraulic/hydraulic fluid and filter.

Change the fuel filter, but drain water from fuel tank first.

Clean radiator and oil cooler fins.

Drain, flush and refill engine cooling system. Cooling system capacity: 28.4 L (7.5 gal).

Inspect all hoses and clamps.

Check battery charging.

Adjust engine valve clearance.

Check and adjust fuel injectors.
