John Deere 4640 Maintenance Information

John Deere 4640 Service Intervals

Every Ten Hours or Daily

Check and replace fuel filter if necessary. Fuel filter element part number: AR50041. Check the correct operation of diesel fuel pump.

Check the engine oil level. If the oil level is too low, add new oil.

Transmission fluid level checking procedure. If the transmission fluid is too low, add it.

Checking air filter. Install a new filter element if necessary.

Check radiator coolant level. If the coolant level is low, top it up.

Check engine idle speed, steering unit, hand brake and service brakes. Repair any damage if required.

Every 50 Hours

Inspect all tires. Inflate tires if necessary.

Check the battery. Clean battery terminals if necessary.

Check front axle oil level. Add if required.

Check the hydraulic fluid level in system. Add if required.

Lubricate the rear and front wheel bearings.

Inspect the rear and front wheels. Tighten nuts and bolts as required.

Every 200 hours

Change engine oil. Motor oil type: SAE 30 with API classification CD, CC or SD or Torq-Gard. How much is needed - 20 L (5.3 gal). Add oil to the upper mark on the dipstick.

Engine oil filter replacement. Oil filter part number: AR43634 or DZ101880 if tractor equipped with Reman Engine. When change the filter, cleaning the housing is recommended. After installing a new filter, check the oil level. If required, add it.

Replace hydraulic/transmission fluid. Recommended oil - Hy-Gard. Transmission/hydraulic system capacity: PowerShift transmission (8x4) capacity - 62.5 L (16.5 gal) and Quad-Range transmission (16x6) capacity - 85.2 L (22.5 gal). Check hydraulic/transmission fluid level after changing.

Changing hydraulic/transmission filter element. Part number of hydraulic/transmission filter element - AR98098, sealing washer - R34733. After replacing the filter element, check the hydraulic fluid level. If after checking the hydraulic oil level is low, add it.

Inspect engine coolant filter. Part number: RE11992. Change every 200 hours and annually.

Inspect cab recirculation air filter. Air filter element part number: RE67830. Changing annually and as required.

Check and service cab fresh air filter. Part number: R65450. Replace annually and as required.

Clean the radiator fins with a brush from dust.

Inspect the fan/alternator belt and if it is worn, replace it.

Check the tightening torque of the hub bolts.

Every 600 Hours

Check engine primary air filter. Part number: AR80652. Replace annually and as required.

Check engine secondary air filter. Part number: AR80653. Replace annually and as required.

Check radiator coolant. Top up if required.

Check engine idle speed. Adjust if necessary.

Inspect all hoses and fittings. Tighten as required.

Front axle fluid change.

Check and adjust the brake system components.

Install a new primary and secondary air cleaner elements.

Replace hydraulic/transmission filter and fluid.

Inspect hydraulic filter. Hydraulic filter element part number - R27173. Clean filter every 1200 hours.

Drain water from fuel tank and change fuel filters.

Clean oil cooler fins and radiator.

Flush the cooling system and refill with fresh coolant. Cooling system capacity: 36 L (9.5 gal).

Inspect all hoses and clamps.

Check and service the battery.

Check and adjust valve clearance.

Check and adjust injection pump.
